I work in a hotel and part of our tasks is to collect the trays from room services after the guest has left it. It gives you a proper workout picking up all of the trays 🤣

Your jumper/sweater is probably acrylic or an acrylic blend, which does create static electricity and is causing the sparks when you pull it over your head. If your hair were wet, it would not allow it to conduct any electricity.

in reference to the jumper [anyone can correct me if i'm wrong] but im pretty sure the sparks are caused by the large potential difference between the jumper and your hair. obviously when you rub the jumper against your hair some electrons get transferred making the charges opposite, however it also creates a stronger electric field which makes the air around it a good conductor of electricity. that combined with the greater potential difference causes the electrons to jump to the other material, which causes sparks. at least im pretty sure thats how it works.
