This makes me so happy! I loved my time in Morocco and I miss it so much! Harira is a must! It was one of my favorite dishes. Also, if you want to impress the locals you can thank them in Arabic by saying "shukran" pronounced "shoo-kran." But you have to roll the "r"😊

Camel burger, maakouda and other revisited local dishes in the Cafe Clock. They also do special parties on some nights (check their Facebook page) On Wednesday, restaurants usually serve a traditional dish called Rfissa that is made with Msemen lentils chicken and onion. Uughhh god I'm drooling just thinking of it. If you come to Casablanca I can share with you a secret place that sells the most cheap and yummy sandwich you can have for that price (3dhs). Enjoy your stay xoxo

Your informations need to be corrected Moroccan Gastronomy isn't at all influenced by Frensh cuisine ! Messamen has absolutely nothing to do with frensh crêpe neither Moroccan sallad ... you guys need to eat Pastilla the salty one with fish and the sweet with chicken , Also the best roasted Lamb burried into the ground known as " Royal Mechwi " make sure to eat it before you leave Marrakesh . Welcome to Morocco !

French influence on Msemen ... uhh what? Many westerners think when French and Spanish invaded Morocco they found indigenous people living in tents, wearing goat skins and riding camels lol During the medieval period (a.k.a dark ages) Europe royalties and nobles were studying astronomy, math, chemistry, philosophy, architecture (you name it) in universities of Moroccan Empire/Andalusia and used Moroccan artisans to build/decorate some of their castles like their own magnificent buildings you can still contemplate across Spain, Portugal and of course Morocco. All kind of fields were influenced and food wasn't an exception. For example (to make things short) the actual famous Spanish "Paella" (read paheyya) is originally Arabic/Andalusian dish from it's Arabic name "Baqeyya" which means "remains", since the dish is mainly from the remained items in the kitchen (veggies, meat, fish ...) that are put over lots of rice. Not to mention the influence in language since there are around 8000 (yeah eight thousands) words of Arabic origin in Spanish alone and in other languages across the continent. How about that influence? :) We are talking about decades of French/Spanish presence in Morocco versus a colossal 800 years of influence from Moroccan/Islamic Empires in their golden age of might, knowledge and science from the Atlantic to China's border, with a distinct exception: Arabs preserve the local cultures and enrich it instead of wiping it like former empires and conquerors use to do, and as Spaniards and French sadly did in south/north America and Africa. Of course the blame here for such insinuation (i.e french msemen) isn't on you but on the politics, fearmongering media and on the educational system that makes a blind eye on a very important segment of western medieval history since it doesn't always fit their favourite narrative that Europeans discovered almost everything by themselves :) Have a wonderful stay in your second homeland Morocco, you are most welcome!

I agree with many things you say but when it comes to the paella, yes, there are theories that the word might come from the arab word baquiyah, but the dish itself as we know it nowadays, is thought to have originated in Valencia, Spain.

I'm a Moroccan-American. And I wanna holler at you for a little bit. I can see you guys eating off the tagine the wrong way. You should use approximately up to an square inch of a bread piece for each bite you take, tuck the food in with you thumb and the bread piece with your middle and index fingers. Voila. It's nothing barbaric. It's mannerism to master the art of picking food with less bread and without leaving a mess. I've lived in Marrakech for 4 years. If you want to go places anywhere, let me know.

You should try pastilla, sfinj, rfissa. Moroccan cookies are made with almonds and very popular in Spain and France. You should try some varieties of that. Street food: grilled corn, cooked snails and fresh orange or pomegranate juice!
