While the kids are there, they buy near/brand new cars because they are so much cheaper than in their home country. It was only a £2000 car but I had to confirm that he knew it wasn't like an Audi R8 or something but just a 1.9 TDI Seat Leon. @@DG_427 We also have salt on the roads for at least 5 months of the year. Btw I thought you guys have less or no salt on the roads and drive with spikes 🤔 What I can definitely tell you though is: the warmer it is, the worse the salt becomes. When it's significantly under 0°, the salt tends to stay solid and not get so slushy. In most regions in germany the temperature doesn't stay below 0 for long time spans. So winter is pretty wet here. The salt mixes with the melting snow (that already melts without the salt) and you have a brown salty slush on the roads for about 4 months. Since climate change started to kick in the winters in germany (or at least my region) are terrible.

The fact that Australia has had this kind of protection on money transfers for over 10 years is great. I first got a letter from the bank telling me the money has been put in hold until I can verify the account details and it will take two weeks to clear once I confirm it's correct or incorrect
@Stratos19883 ай бұрын
While I was getting scammed (sadly, bastard pulled it off), while sending money tranfer my bank didn't even let it out at all. The second I pressed send it was returning some error. Sadly error was something vague like "Unable to execute" but later when it finally dawned at me what has happened, I concluded that his account must've been blacklisted and system was trying to protect me.

Yeah, I had that twice here in Australia.. One .EU page and one somewhere else. $55 bucks to do it. When I asked and mentioned that VicRoads has one similar for $30 , they said something along the lines of, this is is the best site, blah blah blah. I had the sob stories of them being ripped off with other cars.. I didn't do it, but I wrote back saying I did and it failed with a repairable write off.. They then said, eh, I don't want it now. Sold my VW Amarok recently through Trademe, a New Zealand website which is similar in ways to eBay. Within 24 hours of listing the vehicle, I had several scammers contact me who wanted to inspect the car. After they asked basic questions, they then demanded I pay for an online vehicle history check from a dodgy website based in India. The website required a VIN number, and claimed to generate a report after entering credit card details. Yeah...nah. Would love to see a video that exposes car parts scammers. The kind that pretend to have parts for sale...but don't. And those who clone Facebook pages of legitimate companies, then use photos from other countries of stock / parts.

Lol years ago I sold my 2016 Kawasaki ZX6R which was worth about $8,000 for only $4,750. I even added in a motorcycle stand, spare windscreen, and extra fluids. The guy buying the bike was SUPER skeptical lol. Meanwhile I just wanted to make somebody’s day with a bike that I no longer needed. I had no intentions of getting a good price for the bike, only wanted to make a biker happy. After he got the bike home (about a 4 hour ride) he called me and the excitement in his voice genuinely made my day lol.

Sometimes its worrh the risk. I got an Alfa romeo 159 for £300 because it had been up for two months and looked sooooo fishy. Its was a guy selling it for another guy but it was stored somwhere else. But after risking it and going to view it twice i low balled and he accepted. Been a year now and the cars faultless. Full red leather interior. Every optional extra. Been the best deal of my life so far.

The thing is though losing £300 isn't really a life changing amount if it's a scam for 99.99% of car buyers - it sucks for sure, but your credit rating isn't going to get hammered, your lifestyle isn't really going to change too much. I'd take that gamble as well. But once once you get to £5000, £10000 or even higher average joe is going to take time recovering.

My Dad used to be car salesman (mind you this was a while ago but I imagine it isn't much different) and he explained to me the whole economics of the situation are different for a dealer. He explained the cars that they had were bought on what was effectively an overdraft or credit. They are paying interest on the value of their stock at regular time periods (maybe monthly, or quarterly). The longer the car stay's on their books the less profit they make on it because they're paying that interest, until you get to a point where they may start losing money. At that point it starts making sense to get rid of the car even if it they make little or no money. This was about 40 years back so it's likely to be a little different now, but I think some of the same basic principles apply. He used to say the end of the month was a good time to buy from a dealer because they would anxious to get as much money off their inventory before they had to pay interest on it, so they were more willing to do deals.

The seller was in Singapore, car had debt listed and I met his "brother in law" for the test drive. ended up buying it, because the owner cleared the debt, then I picked the car key up from a Midas service centre, and got mailed the spare 3 weeks later... it all worked out.

here in the US, the only problem with CarFax is that it only reports damage that was reported to the insurance company. If you ding up a car, have Uncle Elmer fix it in the barn and then trade the thing fast to get rid of, you have no idea it's been damaged. If the dealer where it was traded realizes the car has been hit and repaired, they generally send it to auction where it goes to second or third-tier dealers (the dreaded 'buy here-pay here' lots) where someone gets stuck with it. Also, in some states here, cars can be write-offs (we call them totaled) and still be re-registered. In my home state of New York, if you buy a car that has been written off by an insurer, it is an expensive ordeal to make the car road-legal again.

As someone who used to work the dealership life i know that dealership didn't own the car. So if it sits on the lot for too long the interest they pay on the loan starts costing them money instead. Thats when they sell the car at the cost of their loan so they can stop paying for it.
