I find it interesting how just the general muscle structure is so much different. MTBers often have significantly larger legs that can shove out gobs of power in shorter burst (kinda like body builder). Case in point, in the 'drag' race, Blake spun out, regained his footing (on a fixie, mind you) and STILL won. Roadies often have smaller legs, but can spin faster and for longer duration (more endurance athlete style). As a result, they can have their bike geared a little lower to compensate, so they can spin faster to hold 'the same' speed, but they don't have to produce as many watts per crank revolution. I recon, if you'd geared up the bikes just a touch, Richard and especially Blake would be right on par with the circuit racers over a lap or two.
@MarchuxProductions3 жыл бұрын
None of the GCN presenters except for Manon are track riders though, and no one is even close to a track sprinter. Completely different ballgame, as both crews were kinda out of their comfort zone.

blake's explosive power is severely underrated, he also beat hank in the steep cobbled climb video, this is a proof why mountain bikers like mvdp and sagan wins in steep but short sprints in a road race. amount of torque needed to push the gears on rocky terrain is massive hence why blake won
@ohne_speed3 жыл бұрын
I do both, and roadies could get very suprised when someone sprint them while sitting. They are used to stood up sprints and putting sudden 800+ watts while still in the saddle can really shock them.
@ranggiarohmansani3 жыл бұрын
mvdp start from cyclocross, that's where he got the torque, because go up on the front at start is really important.
@cornishalps98703 жыл бұрын
the riders will more likely choose a sport which suits them physiologically, mountain bike racing requires sharp short efforts whereas road cycling is very much consistent power.

Think Fixies as on the track with a bit of tread on flat (sometimes wet) bumpy outdoor grass tracks with the spectators safely behind a rope in toughing distance to your right.....whilst others throw heavy objects around the infield, dance on swords and do competitive bagpiping. Pretty competitive racing with handicapping thrown in to give us all a chance.
