The name Auchentoshan is from Gaelic Achadh an Oisein. Scottish Gaelic pronunciation and translates as "corner of the field". Very vice stuff though. My second choice after Glenfiddich.

Try a nice Dalwhinnie one of these days. Smoothest highland scotch I've tried, and it is definitely one I would recommend for a newbie.

I’ve tried their 10-year old scotch and it was not peaty at all, but was very smooth. It was good, but I prefer whisky that has a good standout characteristic flavor, particularly Talisker and Laphroaig.

Gonna open up a whole hornets nest here, but I really dislike Auchentoshan on moral grounds as my native Japanese drinks giant Suntory took over Auchentoshan and totally changed what was once a proud and independent distillery. Suntory changed all of Auchentoshan's focus away from age statement Lowland malts to focus on pushing the idea of the woods in the casks - mainly bourbon casks. This was purely because Suntory have an eye-watering amount of Jim Beam casks that under bourbon distillery laws can only be used once. So it made sense for Suntory to buy out a Scottish distillery as a means to re-using their Jim Beam casks and thus getting better value from their casks. Great news for Suntory, but it totally changed and distorted the original Auchentoshan distillery.

I understand what you are saying. But if you look at Tomatin Distillery they were failing and going to have to close but a Japanese company came in and bought them out and are keeping the production the same. And if you look into the Japanese whisky they are actually following the same rules of making Scotch Whisky. I get the frustration but yet in a way they are saving some distilleries. So kind of a give and take. Do we let them fail and close forever?

Nothing wrong with Auchentoshan Scotch whiskey (Lowland region Whiskey) but if i wear a kilt i will drink a Highland region single malt like : Macallan or Highland Park. Slàinte mhath.
