This just radiates “Made-up murder mystery game you play with your sibling” as kids and it’s so refreshing! Feels so fun and authentic. If this is a series you will be getting into more, I’d love to see it! It’s a great way to open up a murder mystery novel. 😄

Cool to see a different mystery writer being tackled. With Agatha Christie, it's obvious Poirot was always secretly the murderer and his true skill was finding mentally unstable people to take the blame. "Oh no I just happened to be right beside my 42nd murder this year, I must eh...solve it"

I love these videos! While in Japan, you could try and solve the Tokyo Zodiac Murders by Soji Shimada. There's literally a point in the book where the author explicitly tells you that you now have everything you need to solve the crime.

Oh wow! This is my favorite mystery series of all time. Mill House is better than the Decagon House IMO but both are worth reading. Alas, the next translation in in the riddle house books (The Labyrinth House Murders) isn't coming out until October 10th. Mill House came out in May of 2023 so that is a 17 month (!!) gap between books. So they finished Decagon House in 2015, and only then decided to continue once it sold well. But there are 9 murder house books (homes all built by the same mysterious Nakamura Seiji). Two books are finished leaving 7 more books, or in other words 7 more translations. I get translating is hard, but seeing as all these houses are connected I've been theorizing that all the mysteries are somehow related. But to get there we are averaging a 17 month wait per book (one year and five months). 17x7 is 119 months until the final book or just under 12 years. Meaning it will be over a decade until we get answers :( Anyways, good job. Yukito Ayatsuji (the author of this series) was the founder of Honkaku mystery novels in Japan and I think is by far the best. What makes these books so much for the format your using is that its all about the puzzle, not the characters or emotions. And the whole promise is that the reader should be able to solve the mystery before the end. And they supposedly get more clever each time, but again, 12 years. I don't know, but I have no one to talk to this stuff about so watching this video was really fun. So thanks for making it. edit: If you liked this style of solvable mysteries based on clues (not characters/drama) Soji Shimada is a disciple of Yukito Ayatsuji and his book "The Tokyo Zodiac Murders" is notorious for being clever. Though I feel Ayatsuji is the best of the best so if you want more just read Decagon House. As for Mill House.... SPOILERS: Fujinuma speaking in first person is what threw my suspicion off of him since he was struggling with a mystery (the note and the whereabouts of the real Fujinuma), just not the same mystery we were trying to solve.

I found your video a couple of days ago, found it interesting and decided to read the book before watching. Now I'm back)) SPOILER: . . . . . 1) So great you worked out that Masaki is the murderer! Almost right from the start! 2) The thing that was the most suspicios to me from the very beginning is the style of telling the story in the past and in the present. From "I" and "He", it must have been done on purpose. So the idea of another man hiding behind the mask came to me. It's seems easy when you're wearing mask and gloves and move in the wheelchair. What's more, Shimada asked the main guy twice "are you Mr. Fujinuma?" and twice the guy answered sth irrelevant but didn't give the exact answer. As for me, the author was too honest with a reader in this part, I'd rather he let Masaki lie. That'd be more interesting. Cause he's a muderer pretending to be another man for a year, it's not a problem for him to lie. 3) Masaki's only finger left to imitate he was murdered and the same plot in Harry Potter series... hm) 4) I've studied the plan of the ground floor lots of times and have only one question: how do people get into the courtyard? There are no doors! Thank you for the video, it was really nice to watch!) Hope to see other honkaky misteries solved by your detective duo.
@stephaniejohnson4703
@stephaniejohnson4703 3 күн бұрын
(Spoilers): Omg yes! I clocked on the identity thing immediately from the perspective shift and fingers/glove mention, and was just verifying the theory going along - think more red herrings like a lie in Masaki’s dialogue would have thrown me off better. But I didn’t get the body party/window thing that Emma solved, I kept thinking the body found was Kiichi because of the burning. As a result was studying the plan soooo much to think how he could have disappeared and the no door to the courtyard was maddening haha! Also would kind of like subtle hints at the architectural trickery within the plans… hopefully something in future translations if they’re all related to the same architect!

Now for the video, I love that you guys reenact the scenes from the book. I want you guys to solve the first book in the series "The Decagon House Murders" since you have already familiar with "And Then There Were None" I think you guys could easily solve it (I want you guys to actually use the authors images as the characters images for the story since the characters are nicknamed after famous detective authors). Then continue it with "The Labyrinth House Murders" that's going to release in october, maybe next time asked your brother to read the book while you did what he did during this video :v Also... where did you get the book with that cover? my book has a different one.

I wanted to share my own experience of solving this book, if you guys don't mind :) After reading the first book of this murder mystery series by Yukito Ayatsuji I was surprised that Shimada is going to be the detective of the series, because he is overshadowed by the characters and main murders of the first book. I think the cover of the book spoil the plot twist of the book. The things I manage to solve. 1. That Fujinuma Kiichi in the present, was Masaki. - Because of the way he describes himself, his face for example. He always says "That face" or "That loathsome face", he also criticizes himself like, "Does she not find the age gap between us weird," (something like that). That's how I immediately know that Kiichi is Masaki in disguise. I also find it weird that Kiichi immediately suspects that it's Masaki in the incinerator when there is no way of knowing it's actually him, so at the start of the book I wrote down "Not confirmed if the body was actually Masaki's" 2. Yurie wrote the note. - At the time of the discovery of the note only Yurie could've wrote it and put it underneath the door. She has the strongest motive and the only one that could put the note underneath the door without anyone noticing. She also has a tic for looking down so it's weird that she didn't say she saw anything. 3. That the painting was hidden. - The painting was so random, Fountain. Had it been The Phantom Cluster I would've never suspected that it was hidden. 4. Furukawa's disappearance from the first floor of Annex Hall. - When it is pointed out that no man could fit and get out through the window, I immediately thought... "But chopped off pieces of a dead body/corpse can!" 5. Yurie was in on it. - There are many times where Yurie is left alone, she is the only who could've stolen the painting. I don't know why, but I've always suspected Yurie, not because she looked like she could kill, more like... she's the type to easily be persuaded to do something. Things I couldn't solve but I guarantee if I solved them I would've solved the whole book: 1. Motive for killing Negishi Fumie and Nozawa Tomoko. 2. The darn secret room. - Nozawa said that she could smell something weird from the basement and the secret room is like... far from that room. Things that distracted me and caught me off guard: 1. Masaki being the one who draw everyone's attention to the painting, then Oishi naming the price of it. I almost believed that someone actually stole it, because Oishi named the painting's price. 2. The power outage. 3. Kuramoto heard that the shower was on when he passed the Northern part of Annex Hall. 4. The fucking newspaper, I shouldn't have trusted that newspaper article. Btw, it's an amazing book, the last parts of the book gave me chill.
