Thank you for reviewing my creations, I am glad you had fun with it, its of course not supposed to fly like a rocket, but the reason it did was that you gave it too much throttle and it took off, you are supposed to reduce the throttle after the nose is out of the water, but most importantly is that you had fun!

That’s a Soviet Erkanoplan....it’s not a plane....it’s really a flying boat more or less....works off of something called the ground effect. Basically when aircraft (the larger the better) get close to the ground a cushion of air swells beneath it and acts like an air hockey table of sorts and this thing once in ground effect above the water would only use those two rear engines to move in ground effect. Erkanoplans are interesting but were dropped due to the impractical abilities of how large of a turn radius they have and how low they have to fly which could cause damage to the engines with seawater

Cool stuff, made one of these myself a little while ago, but I used a PID to keep the altitude stable. Was fully flyable and all, but with the normal workspace limitations the plane was ridiculously overpowered. 8 jet engines for that size was way too much! Oh well, just gotta bring the throttle down. I can fly decently stable at 110+ knots with that. Had lots of fun making it, never even made a plane before ^^

SR _fortnight I’m aware ;) The Ekranoplans are pretty fascinating. They are still very much planes, they were simply never made to take off more than just above the water using the ground effect. Stunning lift capacity in these things, but they were kinda limited in what conditions they could operate in.

Rough seas were not the real issue, the real issue was keeping it stable. They didnt have computer stabilization back then, so any slight mistake would crash you. Especially when there are big waves. Otherwise you just skip over.

Ground effect is an event that occurs when, an aircraft’s distance to the ground is shorter than the half of its wingspan, and is caused by the air, being trapped between the ground and the wing, is not able to leave the high pressure zone created by the wing quickly enough (if you didn’t know wings always produce an high pressure zone underneath them that’s what creates lift), thus boosting the lift on the wing. Ekranoplans take advantage of ground effect, allowing them to travels as fast as a plane, but being the size of a ship, and they can fly so low to the ground that radars have higher difficulties spotting them thanks to the Earth’s curvature. Of course ekranoplans have some drawbacks, the biggets one being they cannot fly with rough seas and high waves

I know no body asked but the way this boat works in real life is that the earth has this weird effect where any flying object trying to go towards the ground will be forced up like the plane does not want to land so the soviets where trying to make a new type of airboat so the used the front Engines to push the airboat to that point where gravity doesn’t want to to land and then they turn those off and the back engines keep the speed and it flys over any wave

1:07 If it hits a wave then R.I.P as the original one was large had Crappy Turning and again the waves were a problem, Frantic was correct it flies within the ground effect in which there is a cushion of air or some sort of air that planes experience at a certian altitude when landing, since as said by others it feels like it is trying to take off or doesn't want to land. In real life the Caspian Sea Monster/ Ekranoplan only needed the 2 rear engines the front were to get it up to speed and get in the ground effect. Once done it can run on it's two main rear/rail engines.... Bow"
