Your son writing his name on his valentine cards being only 3 is the best story ever. I hope saved one of cards for when he’s older. ❤

My daughter gave her class Mochi Valentines. Twenty-four cards with mochis' and $60 later, I regret nothing. She was the class favorite card and she felt so cool! Worth every penny!

I agree with this! This year my kids got BAGS full of stuff. I'm talking slime, toys, card, penicl and candy. I did the traditional card with a sticker you get from target and call it a day. I'm 33, that's what we did too, the cards in a box. Maybe one kids mom would be fancy but this year was like 🤯

Usuaally decorated boxes or just regular bags/boxes and then it would be like a party, so would give your treats if you brought (Most or all did) and then usually teacher has some like treats for us to eat there and play games, etc! I remember in 4-5th grade my sister and family friend that started middle school would always ask me for the candy since they didn’t get anything really 😅

Same! I was telling my son, as we were forming an assembly line of treat bags, that when I was his age, all we got we’re Valentine’s Day cards from the dollar store. Never any candy.

In elementary school, I would always give those standard character themed children’s valentines (small rectangle “cards”…more like credit card sized cardstock cards with character images and a brief v-day statement/message, with spaces to fill out “To:” and “From:” info. Usually packaged as a few large sheets of attached cards, that need to be separated along perforated lines) that had some way to attach a designated candy to the card. Like a small hole to insert a lollipop stick or a pop-out piece that would hold a fun size candy - or Id just tape a candy to the card. I usually got Barbie themed cards to give out and always always gave a candy. I’d take my time selecting a design for each particular classmate, (each box would have a few card styles, with different images/messages) and write their name on the card. It was always so exciting! The ideal thing to receive from others was the same as what I gave - a card with my name written on it and a candy attached. The lamest thing to receive was a card without my name it the “To:” field that had no candy. That meant that my classmate simply dropped a not-personalized card in my box, no effort involved. Receiving cards with no candies was boring. I’d shuffle those to the side, in search of the prized candies. I suppose that was because generic, no candy cards weren’t valuable to me. Getting a not-personalized piece of card stock with a Ninja Turtles image, no candy… that didn’t interest me and I had no purpose for it. Getting candy WAS the fun part. Just having little character image cards wasn’t special. As I got a bit older, I’d make little treat bags for the classmates that I liked better. Just a little cellophane bag with a few candies, maybe even a mini cupcake, since I often baked with my mom. Classmates were easily wowed by homemade treats, with sprinkles and such. I thought they were really easy and simple to make, but I suppose that was because I always helped in the kitchen and thought of box cake mixes as almost no effort - while other kids must have had no clue how to bake/cook, lacking any experience helping in the kitchen at home. Your kids gave cards and cookies/fake tattoos, right? Those cookies seem pretty fancy compared to the usual fun size candies that were the norm in my day. If I have cupcakes or cookies, I recall it typically being the most “extravagant” goodie given out. I guess the vibe of my school/the parents wasn’t “enthusiastic”, since special goodies were nonexistent, apart from my Betty Crocker assisted cupcakes.

What I use to get for valentine day at school was small candy with a little name card. That say to and from then a classic valentine design. I was always happy with that.

As a child in school, each student was given a brown paper bag to decorate. Those bags were hung up on a board. This allowed each student that brought valentine cards for the class. to place the cards in the other students bags. The cards were usually the themed cards, many that had a slot to input a sucker. Sometimes cards without the slots would have a piece of candy taped to it. My children always loved to include special stickers inside and on the envelope the card came with. The teacher card was always a larger card and taped or tied with a ribbon to a special box of chocolates, sometimes a nice scented candle or special coupon/gift card. I can recall there being cookies or cupcakes and a drink that mothers brought in for the class to enjoy. My children also had classroom parties however. over time. homemade baked goods were nor allowed. Those items had to be in a store packaged container. I enjoyed making baked goods and hated to see that change....
