I’m autistic. I just wanted to mention that autism is not considered an intellectual disability rather a developmental disability. However someone with autism may also have a intellectual disability. Annes behavior “kicking the seat” was likely her stimming and her reaction to the “evil stare” was more so her inability to recognize social cues. She didn’t pick up on the fact that the woman was showing disapproval of her behavior. Nothing to do with her intelligence. I know it must be stressful worrying about her future and wanting her to hit certain milestones. Just remember that Anne is unique and she will hit those milestones in her own due time and there’s nothing wrong with that. 😊 Take the pressure off yourself and continue to love her as she is! You’re amazing mom! I love your content.

Oh, would you consider “developmental disability” more like developmental delay or different timing, in the sense that one with autism IS able to do something but maybe at a different pace and with more/less support in accomplishing a certain milestone?

@@anbonner17 right! We may learn differently or we may be extremely intelligent or have mastery over one subject than the other. Like math for instance. Our social deficits and sensory issues are what really highlight us as “different”

First of all….people need to learn to address parents first and not the minors they are with when there’s a problem. I am not confrontational but I will break it down real slow for people who mess with my kids! You are a great mom! Your channel has made me soooo much more aware of children around me…people in general! Hang in there mama!!! You look awesome by the way. Also, all the way with you regarding being good at home first. If you take care of that…everything else falls in place ❤️

Special need mom here and I completely understand with those situations. My daughter is five and Autistic. To keep my sanity and avoid those situations I got a Autism emergency band that goes on the strap of her stroller (she isn’t walking yet) just to let people know about her intellectual disability. Cause baby these ppl were testing me with the attitudes and I wanted to protect my daughter at all cost. I also put one on the straps of her car seat in the event of an emergency. People believe if the disability isn’t visible it doesn’t exist. So happy to have you back hun 💜💜

Part of “real life” is stepping away to nurture yourself. It’s understandable. It’s not remiss to say that your followers are mature enough to understand that your being away for a while means that you are prioritizing. Trying to protect our kids and loved ones can be an ongoing “challenge,” in the face of all the “ills” of the world. Unfortunately, we are not going to always be able to. The best we can do is to try to navigate thru life with the things that we have been taught and learned about the very basics of being a “decent” human being. That a grown “*ss” person would think that it’s ok to respond to and address A CHILD, instead of the child’s parent(s), who’s obviously in their presence and reach, is baffling. Nonetheless, so glad to see you looking refreshed and renewed, and look forward to whatever you choose to share with us! 🙏🏼

I know it's exhausting. I work with children with Autism from Pre-K all the way to adulthood. It can be frustrating, however in my experience, you can still discipline them and prepare them for behavioral situations inside and outside of the home. You have to be firm though. It also has to be constant. Not saying you're not doing that. There needs to be a system in place where there is a lot of positive reinforcement for when her behavior is positive. Also, there needs to be a system in place that discourages the unwanted negative behavior. Again, it has to be consistent. You're doing a great job. Be patient, but still have those systems in place as you're learning, so that when she gets older she will have a solid foundation. Along with all that pray as well 🙏🏽 Wishing you all the best 💗

@@soblessed2176 Thanks. Children with Autism are some of the brightest and most talented children! Don't sleep on them. I work with them, so I know from experience. They just speak a different language so to speak. Once you learn the language, the way that they communicate and interpret things you can create a solid foundation for them to learn and grow. They are aware, alert and very detail oriented in my experience. They also like routine. So when doing something out of their normal routine we usually prep the children a week or two in advance. Like when going on trips and stuff. We do role play, we script things out, we show them pictures and video of where we're going. This way when the "big day" comes, they are informed, prepped and expecting the experience. It takes patience. With the proper systems in place, the children develop very well.

You are a great mom, Vaughn! I too am a autism mom to a 18yo, Jalen. You spoke of the unknown and navigating all the new stages…there’s no manual and you just have to pivot. BUT…in that pivoting just be confident that you are doing what’s best for Anne and then MAKE time for yourself. Even if you just ask your mom to watch her for a couple hours and you go for a run or a massage or just driving around doing nothing. Give yourself and your mind a chance to release, refresh and come back to Anne. We don’t realize it (I definitely do) but sometimes being an autism mom, we get overstimulated just like our kids. When we as the parent is overwhelmed, that energy transfers to our child. Take care of you and Anne and have those conversations of venting, as needed. You’re doing a great job! Ashley❤️

As a military wife; I can fully understand. Time without your spouse on top of other things takes a toll. My husband was deployed for a year a month after we got married. When he came back, we were faced with another deployment for a year. Now he’s back but now there’s ptsd. On top of it all, my dad has had a stroke, is dealing with kidney failure and had his leg amputated in June of this year. I’ve been doing KZbin since 2009 and although I’m not nearly as big as you, these moments haven’t made me want to create. I FEEL YOU SIS! Take all the breaks you need! So glad you’re back though!

I retired in 2016 after 30 years as a special ed teacher. I taught many children with autism with varying degrees of severity, and I so feel for you. Because I would typically have students, at least on a part time basis, for multiple years and I always felt that I had families not just the student. I viewed it as my responsibility to be as supportive of the family as possible, and I sincerely hope you will find resources like this for Ann and you and your family. Also, I have a son (grown now) who is 6 ft 4 in tall. He was always tall for his age, and this was a continuing challenge with folks always expecting more than he could deliver, even without any special challenges. I was always amazed (and annoyed!) when we were out somewhere and some random busy body would tell me how he "ought" to be behaving at "his age". I was also a 1st time Mom. So I really feel you on many levels. You are doing an amazing job, dear. Take time for yourself!❤❤

Oh, Ms. Bonner, we have so many similarities!!!! Are you my Kin? 👀😆 My son is 6 years old and 50 inches tall. I've learned that since he is a tall black boy that people will treat him older or not as a child at all. And I think boys are less independent than girls, but I just try to live for now because babies/children don't keep. They truly grow so fast!!! I am also a teacher/educator and a first-time mom. I learn from my son and apply it to my walk and teaching. Mom-lifestyle channels like Ms. Vaughn help me to be a better mom and teacher, to really emphasize that each child--all be it, may have similarities, but--is Different! Children are on the spectrum of multi-Abilities! 🥰❤️

Hi Vaughn! I just subscribed to your channel and have been loving all of your videos. I’m an autism mom to my six year old son and was nodding so hard to all of your issues with Anne. I’ve experienced them all as well and it was so reassuring to hear you express your feelings on this. I’m always so overwhelmed by these instances and try to keep it together regardless but it’s so great to have someone openly express the challenges. Thank you!
