We had hit our limit both physically and emotionally after one of our toughest sails in recent memory. 4 days of battling rough, upwind conditions had left us totally drained. But hey we made it right?? And things would get better right?? Well, not quite. We arrived to find the anchorages were incredibly exposed to the swell, making our floating home feel like we were trapped inside an amusement park ride that just wouldn't stop...it was HOT and full of bugs, and the breaking waves on shore made it difficult to take Sierra onto land so she could get her energy out. Now don't get me wrong, we know we are SO LUCKY to live this lifestyle and call places like this our backyard...but still, sometimes life can feel really hard, whether you live on a boat, in a house, and no matter how perfect things can seem on the outside. So this was where we were at right now...drained, totally in a funk, and generally just over it. But luckily, we had a very special visitor arriving that would help us find our way back to our happy place 🥰

Mormor is precious, she's so vital and lovely! Seeing her with Sierra her love is so visible and her laugh when she rolled over from the rollies are hard situation goals! I want to be like Mormor when I grow up :) I can imagine how hard it is to be in a perpetual 'amusement park ride'. You guys are the best :)

This one had me choked up a little. I’m an old guy - 45 now - but we can all have our softer moments. I could feel the joy from all three generations of ladies, and maybe a little relief from Kazza too. I’m impressed with the vulnerability you’ve shown with the past couple videos. You have such a special life, that you share with the world, so it’s equally beautiful (if not scary) to share that other side of life with the same openness and honesty. How easily you could edit it all out, and hide those away. Instead you’ve shown a family working together, through those bumps, and shared it with the world too. Thanks for that. Pretty damn cool.

new to your videos, but after having seen you for a few moments, i can clearly see his point. What makes your videos, i'm guessing, is the authentic sharing of your inner life. i'v watched watched a lot of these sailing videos, you are the only other couple that i can relate to. We all have an inner life most people are loathe to expodr thst pottion of their person. You guys have the courage to reveal yourselves as real people who have the ability to toutch others with the authenticity of your persons The ability to express yourselves in this manner makes you heros, most people are silent, but boring. Tally Ho!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will not get tired to explain my very easy method to turn a boat on anchor or buoy in any desired position to the waves to avoid from rolling, turn the cockpit into the shade oder leading cool wind into the boat from behind (especially for boats with dodger or doghouse). And I would bag you to try it out and show it to all of your followers. And here is how it works: Take a long rope and tie it to the first link of your Anchor chain which is situated outside in front of your boat or - if you are fixed to a buoy tie it to your buoy directly in addition to your first line. Then tie it very loosely along your ship outside of everything to one of your stern cleats. Then give slowly more and more anchor chain or lengthen your first line to the buoy. You will see that the boat slowly turns more and more putting load to the rope to the stern of your boat. You can stop in any position your like. To turn the boat back, just howl in anchor chain. I would love to see you trying out and filming this method. I am very sure, you will elect it very often then. With best regards from Bavaria/Germany.

I found in panama City Panama Bay that setting a stern anchor helped to keep the bow into the rollers. Also going for frequent swims helps bring your core temperature down. Fans are a must in the berthing spaces. Great video.👍

There is a famous expression in English: When the going gets tough, the tough gets going - meaning when the situation becomes difficult, the strong will work harder to meet the challenge. Sometimes, when we are in a tough situation, inspirational quotes or sayings can help us calm down and focus on what we need to do. You Guys are Tough and we feel for you and are inspired by your positive resilience as a strong family going forward! So Lovely to see Legend Mormor again with Sierra! Best greetings from The Sunshine Coast of Port Alfred South Africa.

Instead of the flopper stoppers, suggest you try a bridle. Tie a long line onto your anchor chain. Extend one leg aft to a stern cleat, and the other to a forward cleat. Adjust the length of the legs until you are riding 45 degrees off the swell. Much calmer, and you don't have the constant jerking of the stoppers.

Sending some love ❤to you guys. For the most part, you are living my dream and I’m envious of your often magical life at sea. But I truly empathize with this right now. Having a tough, rolly, hot, humid, sticky, buggy, uncomfortable anchorage after a really tough sail is a LOT of back to back stuff to deal with. It’s heartbreaking seeing you suffer. You guys deserve a nice relaxing break. I’m rooting for you and I hope you put your needs first and get some respite from the harder aspects of sailing- whether through a break on land or a change at sea or some combination of both. ❤ Take care and stay safe, you are loved!!

We have rocker stoppers and find them to be very helpful in the Pacific Northwest with the currents and often light wind. It lets the boat settle onto the anchor rather than drifting all over the place, tying the rode into knots around everything on the bottom.

Heys there guys, long time watcher first time commentator. I watch your videos from Aus, I work as an underground coal miner and after watching your video before night shift it got me thinking. These flopper stoppers, you said they are made to sink quick and fight the roll. My question is, have you tried putting them on the other way ? The smaller side on the bottom, so they are link buckets instead of hat ? Thanks for your time Cal.

Hello there 'Guys' Great to see 'MoMo' there with You All .... Now those 'Flopper Stoppers' are a Brilliant Idea .... Was just wondering .... Maybe they could be a LOT more effective IF you had a 'Weight' .... Bag of Rocks, Sand, Gravel or even some small anchors, on the end of the 'Rope'. This will help with the 'Sink' Function and hold the 'Ropes as Vertical as possible. I did see that at some times the 'Ropes' of the 'Flop Stops' were at quite angle, thus reducing their effectiveness ..... ALSO, the Added Mass would Also act as a bit of 'Damper' .... What a Brilliant idea, just feel that it is about 90% there .... Best to ALL from ChCh, NZ

The love between Sierra and her mormor is heartbreaking in the best posssible way :-) I teared up thinking - what a blessing it is for a single, elderly man to be able to follow a child growing up. She´s at the age you start having memories for life, and as much as it´s a joy to watch her discover the world it nurishes bringing back my own memories. It´s a delight. Greetings from Norway. Jeg elsker at Mormor prater mye svensk med Sierra. Skandinavia :-)

Idea from a land lubber: Is it possible to use a number blown up tractor tyres inner tubes placed on each side of the boat as out riggers? Or used those sausage type tubes used in salvaging the same way? Heading to New Zealand next spring/summer?

Hey there! Been loving your videos. You’ve probably heard of this truck, but just in case we thought we would mention it… when you’re anchored and the waves are on your beam, we’ve run a bridle off the anchor rode to the winch in the cockpit, to turn your boat into the waves. Much better than a stern anchor, because if you have to go, you can untie quickly. You will be sideways to the wind sometimes, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. It is a neat trick to get your bow to come into the waves. Hope this helps. We thought we would use our boat, Norna’s yard to do the flopper stoppers when we needed to, but never had proper flopper stoppers. 😅

I really hate to point this out, but I'm going to. Have you guys never read any books about the anchorages in the Marquesas? Hal Roth wrota about the rolly anchorages forty years ago. Not to mention all the sailors that live in Mexico you might have talked to. Just a little preparation and your stay would have been all good. How? Rocker stoppers. I carried them with me for ten years to make my stay at the anchorage better.

You guys should come down to the Gambiers. No rolly anchorages, cooler temps, and historically very low chance of a cyclone. There would be enough notice to move north if needed and beats the hell out of the rolly Marquesas anchorages. 😊

When our boat came into Taioha'e Bay in 2016 we initially anchored in the middle like you and it was very rolly. We then moved to the NE side of the bay and it was much better and access to the shore is there too. Of course other people figure this out and it can get a bit crowded. We heard the NW corner of the bay is also better than the middle. One problem with the middle is that the swells hit the beach and rebound back out adding to the chaos. That was also an El Nino year and it was ungodly hot. But it beats the heck out of being exposed to storms.

I’m sure you’re enjoying being on land for a little bit to pick up your mom!! I pray that you all will have less rolling and more relaxation in the days ahead🤗
