I was a bus driver for 18 years and I’ll tell you there was many drivers who hosed down the floor of their buses and then ran the heaters on high to dry the floor so seeing that rotten flooring doesn’t surprise me.
@mikezaccario8861Ай бұрын
Yeah bus cleaners would hose the floor and leave it to dry overnight in NJ works good until winter water would freeze then thaw getting under flooring for wood and framing it kept my shop busy for 80 years

Bus floors are notorious for rust and my bus was full of surface rust caused by the bus driver pressure washing the rubber mats forcing water underneath. I bet if you pulled the plywood up there would be a lot of rusty spots

You needed to JB the holes in the floor before you sprayed painted it. So now you will get water coming up under your floor from not filling in the holes you left under your patch.

You have to take the entire floor out of the original bus down to the metal then you have to grind and treat the rust repaint it. Make sure all the holes are sealed from the seats, insulate and put a new subfloor down. This is what you do if you do it correctly. I can send you pictures of how I did mine if you want to see. Do not use the original floor and make sure you insulate it.

Hey Eric, Al here. I suggest maybe by yourself a tablesaw and some two by fours and cut them down to the wits that you need for better than trying to get something straight. Then you can cut it make it fit what you want you got work that’s OK that’s nothing, like I worked on these homes before had to rebuild entire wall because of dry rot had to rebuild every freaking wall, rotted out rebuild the whole thing right to the roof line from the inside out anyways best luck with that that’s something I wouldn’t mind doing there. I’m going down there vacationing somewhere down there. It’s warmer than where I am at PC in now. Too bad but I would like to get some insulation in there for the winter.

Eric, you may want to treat that rust with some sort of phosphoric acid treatment (there's lots of them) before you paint it. You might also want to check into a paint called "Chassis Saver". It's supposed to be pretty good stuff. I don't have any personal experience with it but I hear it's good stuff. You might also want to figure out where that "dry rot" got wet as dry rot is simply wet rot that dried out. Keep the good stuff coming buddy.

After just watching the floor patch video I see you’re going to Buckeye or Yuma to the big bow store for lumber and supplies. Before you drive an hour or more you might try Ace hardware in Blythe, it’s only 25 miles towards the west end of town and they have a large lumber yard. Might be a nice ride on Black Betty just to explore the store and look around town for a new restaurant for a change. I know the videos are delayed and you’re probably already gone to Lowe’s or HD but you’ll need supplies again. BTW there’s a big Albertson’s grocery store too

Hi Eric, find out the high/low idle recommendations for your specific engine. Some of the guys with Prevost and the Detroit engines were using the low idle because they think that they did not need to have it on high idle because they were not putting heavy loads on the systems. In fact, it was found out that the engine is designed to run at high idle and the low idle were just for shorter time situations like filling with fuel. Low idle was not coating the crank bearings with the engine oil properly and significant wear had formed in short periods of time when the engines were million-mile engines. Hope this helps and thought it was important to look into. I enjoy your vids and fur buds.
@nomadicfanatic2 ай бұрын
The dealer's advice is what I'm going with for now. First starts to refill the air tanks require high idle. After that, if heaters aren't needed, high idle can be turned off.
@RedgieKeller2 ай бұрын
@@nomadicfanatic true , if you were going to idle for any length of time, you want high idle ! But at first cold engine just normal idle for a couple minutes, then high idle.

Important note: always drain your air tank(s) after you build up air and before you start moving. Condensation takes up space. That leaves less space for air to operate your air brakes. Take my word for it. Condensation builds up quickly inside an air tank.
@danno34972 ай бұрын
That bus from WA most likely has an air drier Every time it builds air to cut off point, it spits out a lot of air and any moisture in the lines. It is a good idea to drain the wet tank daily and see if there is any water or oil in it I remember draining the the wet tank when there was no drier and it was like a water faucet!
@living2ndchildhood5982 ай бұрын
@ As a green driver, I have lost my brakes and then drained my tank. It was almost full of water and oil.
@terrillforehand7952 ай бұрын
Did you find the source of the water that caused the damage. Probably ran down the wall from the roof and puddled there. If not, you probably should drill some holes in the metal below the patch to allow for drainage.
