I served a FHL at the main library . We wpuld get bus loads of oatrons who were not members. We could not really mention the church unless the person made it clear they were members and had ? regarding a specific piece of family history. I am additive to family history and temple work. I have found so many family and cant personally do all the temple work so submit to ordinance ready. Hard to believe how fast my family gets the work done. My 18 year old twin grandchildren received their endowment this summer. Not only do they do baptisms with their siblings but are excited to go with me to do everything else at the temple. Another member podcaster is a convert and the only member he knows in his family. He is overwhelmed with how much work he needs to do so was thrilled with the recent change..he nows sees it is possible to do more.

From this video I had several goosebump moments because this was the exact topic of my talk on Sunday. I spoke to the youth of my ward about family history and temple work. I’ve added 1800 people to FS this year and am going to ramp up my participation. I had to do some serious findagrave memorials before I could continue. Great video.

My family has experienced what was described here- a distant cousin in the Netherlands, who is not a member of the church, felt prompted to start working on his family history, which led to him contacting my mom through the platform. This led to him visiting us in the US and my parents visiting him and his family there. In short two sides of the family, separated when one brother joined the church in the 1800s and the other stayed behind, have been able to reconnect.

I have spent some time on the Family History Center back a decade or more ago and used those...but mostly I have been lucky enough to find much of my family history on the internet, as I converted to the church in 1997 when the internet was just getting a running start. In 2001 I was full speed ahead with the work and went back about ten generations all the way around. I followed not only the main lines, but all the children as well as far as I could go. Back then the rules were not so stringent as they are now regarding the permission. I was lucky! It was a burning desire within me for years and years. I still do it, but it isn't the driving force like it was then...Also I had some experiences in the temple where the Lord let me know specifically how pleased he was with my efforts. It was an exquisite joy and something I will will always cherish. So those out there who haven't started, JUST DO IT! The blessings you will realize will be wonderful.

RootsTech classes can be accessed online during the weekend they are held. After Rootstech, some recorded classes are posted. It's fun to be there personally, but others who can't be there can still access the classes that are recorded.

I remember spending 100’s of hours at the Family History Center using microfiche readers & ordering microfilms from Salt Lake City to do research on my ancestors in Germany & Italy. I was even able to visit & get records, while stationed in Germany, from the German Archives/church records. One miracle led to another, & my husband and I were able to get temple work done for over 4 Generations! It was the Lord’s work and He helped us. After computers & cell phones, the Family History work hastened & I’m so grateful for that! ❤😅

The story why the church built the Provo and Ogden temples is an interesting one. It all started because David O McKay started a task force to study the existing temples to see how they could be made more efficient. They ended up building two new temples that were not planned on. In the process the architect received inspiration on how to use a movie and multiple instruction rooms to make the endowment more efficient. The Ogden temple completed more endowments in the first month of operation than the Salt Lake temple did in a whole year. It became the model for all temples that followed.
@l.chrisjones7775Ай бұрын
The movie idea came when the Bern Switzerland temple was built in the 1950S as a way to provide the endowment in the multiple European languages while keeping the the same number of workers.

Interesting. The microfiche was a wonderful technology in my day! We used to have to write to the town/city/county/state to get certified copies and that took a lot of research and postage. It cost a lot of money. To just be able to check out the microfiche was marvelous!

It was 1995 and finally all my 5 children were in school all day. I stood in my living room wondering what to do with all my free time. The thought popped in my head to go to the family history center and learn how to seek out my ancestors. So I did and thus began a lifetime of hunting down ancestors. I lived in Colorado at the time... in what is now infamous Aurora area. The only way to do family history was to go to the church or library and look things up. We had to order in microfilm from Salt Lake if we wanted it. Then in 1997 we moved to Salt Lake the the big Family History library there became my second home. It was amazing to me! And now... all I have to do is turn on my computer and have access to all kinds of information! Now there really is no excuse NOT to do family history work. It's become way, way easier. I just wish I had better records from Ireland which is where I've gotten stuck on one line. I did find I am a DAR on one line, but my dream is to travel to Ireland and do some searching.

There's been a huge acceleration in the gathering of Israel for most of my lines both direct and collateral lines I have found have already been through the temple. Nearly every line has gone through or is going through the temple by someone else in the church who has been doing the work..

President Nelson further defining “the spirit of Elijah” as actually just the Holy Ghost reminds me of him admonishing us to use the correct name of the church. 97% of new family search accounts were not members of the church. If they have never heard any doctrine before and then they hear they are feeling the spirit of Elijah but then you try to help them feel the Holy Ghost it could be confusing to them and off putting as to why we are all about different spirits. I think President Nelson wants us from the very beginning to help these people know the help they are receiving is from God. What they are feeling IS the Holy Ghost. If we as members testify that Elijah returned the keys to make this possible AND it is the spirit of God, the Holy Ghost, that is over all the earth inspiring families to connect again, I think that’s a better foundation to build these non members testimony on.

My dad was in a stake priesthood leadership meeting in the mid 1970’s and they were told computer technology would become available to make genelogical research much easier and temples would grow exponentially. They were looking at putting ordinance rooms in stake centers then. The church did not have the monetary resources in the 70’s that it has now. Now the church can afford to build lots of temples and construction methods have advanced to make the process more efficient. Ther’s been a learning curve with temples. Some temples in the south have had to be gutted or even torn down because the building materials allowed water to get into the walls and cause rot and mold problems. What may work in a more dry climate might not work in a very humid climate. So there’s a learning curve to how to build and what kind of lay outs work.

I attended a panel discussion at RootsTech 2024 with Elder Hamilton, Brother Rockwood, and two others. Along with the info in this article, I was very interested in another thing they shared. This comes from my notes, but someone may find access to the actual class video from RootsTech. Twelve years ago, 2000 youth submitted names for temple work. [Last year] 157,000 youth submitted names.

Lately, I have been going to the Family Search Center in St. George to print names to take to the Temple. The times that I have gone to the Family Search Center, there seems to be quite a bit of people there doing family history work, using the various equipment they have there such as scanners, printers, and other equipment the Family Search Center has for people to use. Most of the people there are older, although the last time I went there, they were showing a group of youth around. I have been able to attend the Red Cliffs Utah Temple each week, and I have done different ordinances like baptisms, confirmation, initiatories, and endowments. The only ordinance I have done is sealings, and my wife and I have an appointment for this evening to do sealings. It has been good to attend the Temple each week. The Red Cliffs Utah Temple closes next week for cleaning, although the St. George Utah Temple will be open next week, so I can attend the St. George Utah Temple.

My Grandparents lived in Sandy, Utah in the 1980s and they did a lot of family history work while they lived there, and they were temple workers at the Jordan River Temple at the time they lived in Sandy. They had served as Family History service missionaries in the 1990s in Salt Lake City. My Grandma died in 2008, and my Grandpa died in 2010. I can imagine that they are doing a lot of work on the other side of the veil to help people come To Christ. My grandparents lived in Henderson, NV in the late 90s and they also served in the Las Vegas Temple while they lived in Henderson, NV.

I loved the comment you made about miracles, and how they look different than we might expect. On my mission, Elder Marcus B Nash came and shared Jeremiah 16:14-16, which basically teaches and prophesies that the Latter-day Gathering of Israel will be by far a greater miracle than the parting of the Red Sea. That's a thought I like to keep in mind whenever I see miracles in my life

Hello Jared, I have been to Roots Tech for 6 years now. The ones during 2020 and 2021 is when they put it online. That is when there was an explosion of people joining and doing family history research. There is now a choice to attend online for free or pay to attend in person in SLC, UT. I also feel that having access to doing DNA tests has hastened the work as well.

My wife's family Mongolian history is hard and almost impossible to do. We know little and have only gotten the most basic info from a few family members who don't seem to know very much. There is practically nothing on Family Search at this time. Plus if there is to be something, unless it is translated, I wont be able to read the language. My wife could read it, but we dont really know where or how to start.

The plan now for any newly baptized member is to have an interview with the Bishop within a week. At that interview, they will receive a recommend and at least one name of a direct ancestor for whom they can go and do a proxy baptism. FamilySearch has developed a system to make this easier for the Bishop to do (while at the same time a Ward Temple and Family History Consultant needs to be at the ready to help the Bishop!)
