Very interesting. I am impressed with your progress.When I was younger my father, brother, and I built a 23’ full keel boat using a similar method. We used a round spruce strip plank, convex down, concave up to hold the epoxy. We edge nailed the strips every 18” with 4” ringed copper nails. That kept the strips nice and tight but the nails tended to wander. So to prevent them from popping through the hull surface we predrilled every nail with a snipped off bicycle spoke. It was a pain in the butt to do it but it keep things tight and the boat is still sailing. Long live B79 Longshot!

Two sliding doors, very simple to build and cheap. Also you save a lot of space.👍💪💪
@w056007568 Жыл бұрын
Will not catch the wind either unlike traditional barn doors. However they can be noisy due to them moving with wind on them and it is not easy to control drafts in a cold winter around all the edges. Any tracks (top or bottom) will quickly freeze up with ice due rain, snow etc. Sliding doors would be my suggestion unless you might afford horizontal bi-fold doors.

What is your laminate schedule? Structurally the cedar strip plank is primarily a core. My guess is that you will need four or five 6oz biaxial inside and outside for this large and fairly heavy cruising hull. A tremendous amount of hand squeegee work for two people. And less than ideal resin/fiberglass ratio. Why not use infusion? We do a 60' catamaran half hull with a small crew in 2 1/2 hours. When you remove the peel ply it needs a lot less fairing than a hand layup.

For a temporary door i would just use a single roll up tarp that can roll up. At the ends use a plank on either end under which the single tarp would roll up underneath so it would not blow around. Some grommets on the edge of the tarp could use "bungee cords" to hold the tarp tight and secure when closed. By boxing in the ends of these holders it would make the doorway fairly air tight .

Malin it is interesting to hear perspectives held by other cultures particularly with regard to environmental conditions. For years my family and I lived and worked in a region of central Australia where temperatures regularly attain mid-to high forties Celsius during Summer. You might then understand that I was initially surprised to hear you refer to 22 degrees Celsius as "really hot today" and had to stop and think "it's all relative".

Please consider: Work on having an electric/hydraulic canting keel. A canting keel will give you dial-up comfort by controlling heel. Also the dagger boards protect twin rudders. You will also have a shallower draft and lighter overall weight. Ask your designer and engineer about it. The engineering is widely known - big carbon frame.

If you have issues with all that saw dust, mechanical workshops actually pay for it, so do butchers, obviously you have the room to use it as mulch, But here in Australia we actually do pay for good saw dust.. we put it on any small oil spills in our shop..

I'm always impressed with the work you do and the results. Opening up the barn seems to have been well planned weather-wise! Once the stem is on, will the new doors close? Will you build out the area in front? If you put longer doors on they will close together further out. You just have to enclose what open area you wind up with. That will make it so that you can move around the bow with the doors closed. If you concrete in the area in front of the boat, then you can add roller wheels to the bottoms of the doors. It will be interesting to see how you plan to flip the boat. I did watch a wooden boat-build on KZbin by a Russian family who flipped the boat in their barn.

I love your channel and great work! Have you considered buying/renting a sprayer such as what Ross uses on "Life on the Hulls"? The sprayer separately sprays the catalyst and mixes it with the resin as you wet out the cloth, which is highly efficient and consistent. Ross seems to get the matt soaked really well which is key to both strength and a good finish. The same sprayer can be used for the finishing gel coats, and once you are done, you can sell the unit to recoup your costs. Anyways, just an idea. Good luck and nice work so far!
