What a terrific show, sorry I missed it! But thanks very much for great coverage, as usual. Hope the little Standard is now back in fine health.

Thank you for putting this video together. Such a varied selection from a time when motoring manufacturers took pleasure in their designs. We are so fortunate to having experienced this motoring age.

Hi, thanks for the great video of the Audlem festival and the inclusion of our conversation across my Mayflower bonnet. It was an interesting day with so many well preserved and unusual vehicles.

Your shows are always interesting and your wealth of knowledge on all these old cars makes it easy for us from afar to be able to see the differences in make and models, but the knowledge of the history of your old Dodge is especially interesting as it seems to have started life on the road in my home town of Adelaide and spent most of its life in Australia. Thank you so much for sharing and I always look forward to the arrival of your next video.

Hi Rick. Thanks again for another great video and, yes, the Mayflower was very nice indeed - that was a treat. Great that you captured it driving in as well as the interview with the owner. It interested me as I have one. It was also a treat to see the Austin A35 drive in. I agree with Vince - that Mk IX Jaguar was impressive, as were others. Nice to see so many locals out watching and waving. Hope all goes well with the Standard 8, that it's nothing major. Glad the weather improved for the event. Cheers. Adrian.

On a day hosepipe bans are in the news because of the dry hot weather it was nice to see the rain falling, just a pity it rained on the show, Lovely video.

The Morris oxford. My dad had a black one red interior . Many a happy journeys my sister and me sliding around one the back seat off on the 4-5 hour trip on summer holidays from Portsmouth to Exeter. Little side note my Dad made one of, if not the first fire proof petrol tank for Jim Clark. I remember the oxfords tank had a leak and he sort of re engineered it using the process of the Jim Clark one.

That Catalina was at our Hebden Bridge show yesterday, there was a Triumph Vitesse there what has to be the best restored car in the UK, bar none, never seen anything like it, even the wishbones and susp had 20 coats of black paint polished to perfection, brake pipes were chrome plated, it was incredible work by the 70 odd year old owner.

The recessed grilles were fitted to the last of the line, the MGA Mk. 2 (1622 cc). I think they made about 1,800 no. before ceasing production in 1962.

Thanks Rick for another brillient video. Shame about the Standard, let's hope it is something simple to fix. I love the Triumph Mayflower - always dreamed of owning one. Someone near me used to have one, but I don't see it any more. He has a couple of other cars though, seen out and about occasionally on nice days - a Mk1 Ford Consul Capri, and an Austin A35 Pick Up. Shame about the rain there, but oh how it's needed now ! Thanks again - take care.

PIty about the weather and I am totally surprised you had issues with the Standard. the joys of motoring but a good video though. You are made of tougher stuff than I am, I wouldn't have ventured out I am afraid in that. The Jaguar MK IX is magnificent. I can imagine much washing, leathering and polishing after that day.What a lovely day out despite the weather initially.

Although the Mayflower looked very nice inside, I seem to recall that they had a certain amount of wood crafted into them - or were these only for the ''super-deluxe' or USA export versions? (Or maybe just mistaken.)
@rogerflegg75582 жыл бұрын
This has got me thinking. I have looked through my parts book for the Mayflower and there are no recognisable wooden “bits”. I would expect that the most probable wood additions would be door caps or a veneer facia behind the instrument cluster but I can’t find anything. With the majority of production sent to the US, South Africa and Australia it is possible that cars were “upgraded “ locally. I know some cars sent to Australia in kit form had a pick up body fitted.

@@rogerflegg7558 Thanks. I seem to recall seeing a video on YT where a USA owner had restored their lhd Mayflower and that it was remarked how much it resembled a scaled down version of a RR (in looks anyway). I thought I saw a wooden dash and door cappings. It had white wall tyres and silver gunmetal type paint. It looked very smart. Maybe they upgraded it themselves. I wish I could find the video.

I think the slightly larger Renown has ash framing?
@wordsmith522 жыл бұрын
@@oldclassiccarUK Yes, that must have been the one. It certainly had a wood dash and door cappings and looked like a compact RR. Mrs Thatcher as a young housewife in the late 1950s was shown driving one of these in the film "Iron Lady". Whether she ever did in real life I do not know!
@levelcrossing1502 жыл бұрын
Great shows. Regarding the two MGA grills, the recessed grill is like the grill fitted to a Twin Cam I used to know. I'm fairly sure that the owner pointed out that it was the Twin Cam grill which was unique to that model. The Twin Cam badges are visible next to the vents situated far back in between the bonnet and the front wings.

Ah ok thanks I'll look into that a bit more then

Another cracking video with some gorgeous cars. Interesting to see two vintage aircraft too, one looked very much like a 1946 Douglas A-1 Skyraider 49:31 and a 1935-ish Avro Anson 50:21. Is there a historic aircraft airfield nearby?
@oldclassiccarUK2 жыл бұрын
The Anson was over from Sleap, I don't know where the Trojan flew from (not local despite the gear being down)

Am I right in thinking that your beautiful Dodge is Stoke registered? Fantastic videos as always, thanks.
@oldclassiccarUK2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul, the BF series I think was originally over Lincs way. Many old cars that have either lost their original registrations, or have been imported and are being registered for the first time, find themselves being allocated a BF-series registration by DVLA. Presumably many regs in this series were never allocated or needed back in the day, hence are available to use now as necessary.

Great video as usual. Hope you retrieved your other car without too many problems. Just wondering what you use in the Dodge radiator. Do you use a modern coolant or something special? I assume the Dodge has an unpressurised cooling system?
@oldclassiccarUK2 жыл бұрын
Hi, just the usual a/f mix, yes unpressurised but it does have a pump

What beats me is, how the heck are these cars that are 50, 60, 70 years old rust free??
@oldclassiccarUK2 жыл бұрын
By now the inevitable rusty bits will have long since been replaced with fresh metal on most cars. Saying that, cars like my 1952 Ford still have all their original panels, mainly because (in this case) it was laid up in a dry shed for 50-60 years :)
