We visited Moo Deng and we don’t know how to feel about it…

Just an hour and a half’s drive from Bangkok is Khao Kheow Open Zoo.
Recently they’ve gone viral after a baby pigmy hippo was born. Named Moo Deng (Bouncy Pig), we thought we’d check out what all the fuss is about … #moodeng

Moodeng spends most of most of the day sleeping , she is a baby. She bounces and plays when the zookeeper visits and feeds Jona(mom) and that is when the keeper records clips.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but as far as I knew, there is only one (or maybe two) of caretaker(s) who can approach Moo Deng because they raised mama Jonah.

If the monkey exhibit without cage you mentioned also divided into many small islands then it's might be gibbon exhibit. In the interviewing with the zoo. They want to make the gibbons felt like they werent trap in cage and felt like they were in nature as much as possible so they create an open enviroment and surround the land with water so they dont escape and end up being other animal snack which surprisingly working. But if you saw monkeys walking around in other animal exhibit that mean they are wild and local😅. Also be careful with your stuff these guys are very good at stealing. This zoo might not be as good as other big zoo in other country but I know they tried their best and the zookeepers genuinely love their animals. They also barely made it during COVID. So I hope this will be a good opportunity to improve the zoo and animal well being. Though I hope they did better at managing tourist that came to watch Moo deng. Even the zoo didnt expect this much fame since they also promote the video of other pygmy hippo calves in the past too aka. Moo toon and Moo wan / Moo deng older brother and sister but not quite this much famous.

เสียงดังมากๆค่ะ สวนสัตว์น่าจะมีวิธีการขอความร่วมมือผู้เข้าชมไม่ส่งเสียงรบกวนสัตว์ ผู้ปกครองเด็กเล็กก็ควรสอนลูกสอนหลานไม่ให้ส่งเสียงรบกวนสัตว์ กลายเป็นคนไทยไม่น่ารักไปซะแล้ว ทุกหน่วยงานและจุดเล็กๆที่เริ่มจากครอบครัวต้องให้ความรู้เด็กเวลาเข้าชมสวนสัตว์นะคะ

ผมคิดว่า เสียงที่รบกวนมันคือเสียงของเจ้าหน้าที่ที่ใช้เครื่องกระจายเสียง(ไม่ใช่คนมาดู) แล้วเขาก็มีเวลาให้ดูนะครับ.. ไม่น่าจะให้น้องกับแม่ออกมาตลอด มันจะออกมาเป็นช่วงๆเท่านั้น

They reported that before Moo Deng, average visitor per day is 50k per week, now its 7k *per day*, with the latest peak being 10k *in one day*. Inexperience wouldn't cut it, but they're also famous for quick adaptability, so they'll make it

Absolutely before moo deng fame zoo has only around 800 tourists per day now it’s around 5,000 per day even 10,000 on weekends. Moo deng keeper that film him even said before this nobody came at all and it’s only him took care of moo deng zone but now they need more staff there. I think it’s will took awhile till they can fully adapted.

Although there is a lot of zoos that are evil and horrible to animals, there also a zoos that truly love them and help animal that are endangered, injured and disabled to live in a wild. This zoos and a caretaker seem to really love and kind to animal but I do agree that the crowd is too loud (I don’t like it too.)

Monkey is wild mountain monkey if you referred to the one roam around freely. I agree that there is alot of noise from tourist although the staff ask for participation to not wake him and the crowd is seem chaotic. the staff lady try to control crowds but maybe it’s alot of people. I think it might take time untill they can fully adapt since tourists goes from 800 to 5,000-10,000 per day. The time you meet moo deng it was eat and wash time so the keeper splashing him 2 times aday 8.00-9.00 and 14.00-15.00 only it’s not like he waking him to entertain tourists also his enclosure is for newborn fam so the pool might seem small. I’m not sure if you didn’t see pool maybe it In the process of changing water

You might want to learn about the 9 current running conservation programs the zoo has been apart of for quite some time, pygmy hippos are endangered. They live in a nice environment and get fed a ton, all of the hippos there have been raised by the main handler who has been apart of moo dengs family for some time.

Would you like to listen to that cacophony all day long, and every 15 minutes get poked and prodded and squirted with the hose? Thats the question...Its not a particularly difficult one. Moo Deng , the sacrifice, for an otherwise nice looking animal park...as its a fact many of these creatures are threatened in their former habitats. Maybe the pygmy hippos will earn a giant aquarium to wallow in and be viewed less intrusively UNDER WATER because of said revenue. ?? One can hope!...Nice video.

It’s definitely too noisy. But this is just feeding time. During non feeding time Moo Deng was chilling out in a pool. Although we agree the pool should be bigger.

Compare to her predecessors, i agree that she's very indeed lucky. this zoo was trying for so many years to make one of their hippo go viral but none of them are as famous as Moodeng. Moo Deng' luck + zoo royal fan made a fan art until japanese people learn bout her and japanese artists made her famous.
