"Eat or be eaten, for eating is the sole privilege of the living". Welcome to the real main theme of this story: eating.
@b4k4survivor5 ай бұрын
Marcille really went through it during these 24 episodes. Just think of all the things she has endured... petrification, being transformed into a half-foot, the whole familiar thing where she was blindfolded and acting like a mighty skyfish, the frogs, the undine.... having to eat monsters, etc. And then, all the emotional trauma of losing Falin, regaining her, then losing her yet again. I like all of the characters (Chilchuck is my favorite), but I feel like Marcille is my sister and I want to help her and hug her and protect her and cheer her on (but I can't help but laugh at her too when crazy things happen to her). That whole sequence with the gargoyles and her barely hanging on for dear life... it makes total sense why Chilchuck just runs off and hides in big fights and hates to be involved. He's just a lil guy, and it was adorable to see Marcille being just a lil gal.
@andrewli66065 ай бұрын
Slight spoilers: Marcille's also only 50 when elves reach maturity at 80 (discounting as a half-elf she'll live twice as long, but her aging is not linear). She is effectively a teenager. Even Izutsumi is technically older than her because she's 17 when the tallman age for maturity is 16.

9:52. To those wondering who all of those people are, they are ex members of Laios party. Their interactions with Laois helped the party become what it is today. They make little cameos here and there in the manga to the point by this part you already know who they are. Im surprised they were added in this episode , as they were completely cut out from the anime. Im guessing they assumed all viewers are manga readers or are hinting anime viewers to go read the manga to know who these characters are, a really interesting detail from the staff to include in the last episode of the season.
@pierre24535 ай бұрын
You know the Frieren thing, when they say "I don't like long goodbyes cause it would be embarrassing when we met again", it's literally that, and even more than Frieren, dungeon meshi s1 just ends in the middle of an episode like any other, I really love this more casual approach to endings Animation was extra good this episode, the last gargoyle sequence was crazy
@TheFrostedfirefly5 ай бұрын
You know, they did take some liberties to make this a more "suitable" finale episode for season 1, but I'm still happy with how much more casual this was as an ending, rather than trying to make some grand spectacle where there wasn't. That being said, it would've been REALLY funny if they ended it how I assumed they would end it, and have the party still stuck in their changling forms, whilst the chaos ensued on the 1st floor of the dungeon (of course, no spoilers for that since we'll find out likely episode 1 of Season 2)
@rediciclepop46395 ай бұрын
They end the way they do because that’s roughly where the source material for the season stops. Frieren’s story just so happened to have a chapter about farewells and goodbyes that ended the first class mage exam, so it could have a neat wrap-up for the season. Dungeon Meshi doesn’t have this during this part of the story but since it already has a second season in production, it really doesn’t need to have that clean of a finish to work.
@TheFrostedfirefly5 ай бұрын
And with that we wrap up the first season of what's essentially one of my favourite manga of all time! Trigger and everyone else that came in to help have honestly done this show proud, many people feeling honoured to work on the adaptation of this manga, both veteren and new staff that clearly all put in as much work as each other to make this into something special... I could only express complete joy and relief to hear that it'd already been greenlit for Season 2! We should hopefully reach the conclusion of the story with that (assuming it's another 20-something episodes). Honestly, there's a lot of people who dropped this show near the beginning because it didn't focus on your typical shonen things like action or fan service (even though it exists, but with a different angle), but that's why Dungeon Meshi is perfect as a seinen series. It already knows off the bat that it's audience is for mature people who know how to appreciate a story that isn't just attempting to shock you. Not only does it start as a respectable adventure/comedy, but it easily paid off for those that stuck around and loved it for what it was. I can promise you guys that you'll only love Season 2 even more, and Dungeon Meshi will cement a special place in your hearts by the time it finishes. Dungeon Meshi has a very clear theming around not just "food", but around the concept of meals bringing people together. Ryoko Kui has demonstrated and executed it with flying colours.

I am Japanese, but the last episode of Delicious Idangion was the next day at noon, after cooking Isobe mochi and Freshwater clams miso soup and grilled yellowtail (Japanese amberjack) with potato starch and butter with lemon juice for my kid's lunch. While my kids were eating them, I had a Soboro gohan that I had made the night before and stored in the fridge. Eating while watching the conversation between Senshi and Lios was a good time (and a good time to hear my kids laughing happily in my ear) that reinforced my respect for farmers and fishermen and my appreciation of food, so I am very sad to see the Delicious in Dungeon cartoon come to an end. I am very sad to see the Delicious in Dungeon cartoon come to an end. Marcille, Chilchak, Izutsumi, and the other characters are all really good characters and well-conceived stories. I enjoyed watching them and the artwork was so beautiful that I'm thinking of buying the original book and illustration collection. By the way, Isobe mochi (It is also called isobe yaki.Isobe = meaning the lapping of waves on a stony or rocky shore + Mochi = meaning rice cake in Japanese.For some reason, overseas, the traditional confections dango and mochi are all lumped together and called mochi, but in Japan, these two are completely different and distinguished) is a food made by dipping a crispy rice cake in a mixture of equal parts soy sauce and sugar, then dipping it in salad oil and wrapping it in nori (seaweed). There are about 57 popular flavors of mochi in Japan, and Isobe Mochi is so popular that it is ranked second or third among them. Soboro gohan(Another way to say it is Soboro don) is made by mixing minced meat and green peas, pan frying them, seasoning with soy sauce, sake(Japanese rice wine), mirin(sweet sake), and sugar, and placing them on a bed of white rice with a Japanese egg roll. It is still a type of rice bowl popular in Japan. For added color and nutrition, carrots cut into cherry or plum blossom shapes with a knife or die cutter are often added. (I think it looks a little different in our house because we mix corn instead of eggs to add sweetness for my kids who don't like eggs). Soboro gohan(In Japan, boroboro is used to refer to the state of being loosened into small pieces or tattered. so is used to refer to the original or bare state. so + boro = a more finely ground and coarsened state than bro.gohan is a polite way of saying white rice) is one of the most popular and standard menu items in Japan, sold at supermarkets, bento shops, airports, and large train stations where the Shinkansen bullet trains run. Recently, more and more Japanese people are introducing Japanese cuisine on KZbin for those who want to know about Japanese culture overseas with English subtitles, so you can probably see how to make both Isobe Mochi and Soboro gohan on KZbin. What is the shape and color of Japanese food? If you are wondering what kind of shape and color of Japanese food they are, please look for the video. Also, thanks for liking Japanese anime.

Tbh the most noticeable "fanservice" moments were the many Senshi panty shots that we got throughout the show but I didn't hear anyone complain about those but because Falin and Marcille shared a bath together in an intimate scene that was meant to convey how close their relationship was that suddenly changed the dynamic of the show when it came to "fanservice"? Why would that be fanservice, especially since the nudity of the characters is not the focus of that scene? Even when Falin later rips her shirt off once she's a chimera the show uses it as an opportunity to make a joke with Marcille's reaction because the show is not objectifying the characters at all. Dungeon Meshi is a seinen manga so if nudity is bothering you or automatically counts as fanservice rather than something that is part of everyday life and hence can be the subject of jokes then I'm afraid that might not be a problem with the show....

Neo, the final enemy is capable of eating anything to the point of eating explosion of earth destroying attacks. The characters whose body part were eaten by Neo can’t be regenerated by any means because the cell within those part are “giving up”. Those and the thought of eating Falin dragon part in this episode is creepy enough for shounen.

Just like after ending "Haikyuu" y'all wanted something directly after it with the same vibe and went with "Run With The Wind" AND Dungeon Meshi has thankfully something similar, with it sharing an incredibly huge overlap in fandoms and in spirit/vibes with 2 other Manga/shows. Those 2 would be "Dorohedoro" and "Golden Kamuy" and they make up a sort of delightful weirdo BIG 3 and someone once perfectly dubbed this Big 3 on Twitter the "Dudes Rock, Girls Rock, Food Rocks", and that is the perfect succint description to broadly bring those 3 together. They all 3 are also multiple award winning Manga and hugely popular and selling well with their Mangas (Golden Kamuy especially is huge in Japan). Dorohedoro was also written by a Woman just like Dungeon Meshi and it shows with how incredibly well-written, badass and layered the female charachter are written. It also has just incredible worldbuilding, incredibly creative/unique/weird. Season 2 was announced recently and Season 1 was done by Mappa and by the director from Attack on Taitan Final Season. Adapting Dorohedoro is super tough and they did an incredible job and Season 2 is gonna be incredible and y'all would ADORE it just like with Dungeon Meshi. Golden Kamuy did not habe the greatest Anime Adaptation, but it got a lot better the longer it went on and soon we'll have the Final Season with S5, but I would recommend the Live Action to you 2. It released in cinemas this Year in Japan to great Success commercially and critically and just released on Netflix weeks ago. Its honestly one of the best Anime Live Action Adaptations, with lots of love put into it and the Mangaka Satoru Noda is working with them on it and has huge input into the Script. A Season and more movies are already announced and it was Top 1 for non-english movies on Neflix globally in its first Week on Netflix. Golden Kamuy just like those other 2 balances Comedy/Drama incredibly well, has an amzing cast and especially one of the better cast of Antagonists the Medium has to offer, a great/unique Premise and fascinitating time period. The amount of research the Mangaka did is also insane and its overall just a breath of fresh air. I Think Dorohedoro would be the Pick, because the Anime is a better adaptation, with a great Director and its on Netflix. The Hype shold be building nicely with S2 coming in the next Year or so hopefully. Golden Kamuy would also be great and I would love to see more Love Action reactions from you 2 and Golden Kamuy seems to be have a great chance of a faithful, detailed and full adaptation in the next few years.

people in the comments are giving you shit for the fanservice comment but you are 100% correct. someone even implying you have problems, fans of this show especially source readers can be so hostile people are being a bit wilfully obtuse pretending it's about the bath scene (which is a very good scene that is also in the manga), your comment about "Falin and the animation" was obviously about the titty bounce shot during the chimera fight. and to really prove your point, that shot is an anime-only addition by Trigger, the manga panels don't even have her boobs in frame LOL it just focuses on her angelic face and the hair fluffing up. which imo suits the mood of the scene MUCH better, her gruesomely murdering someone followed by her soft expression - they went out of their way to add a fan service slow-mo bounce and for me it definitely made me roll my eyes and took away what from what imo was the intended feeling you were supposed to feel (and if I remember your reaction correctly, you also were a bit annoyed and taken out of the moment). so don't care about people telling you you have "problems with nudity" (LMAO), what you are saying about fanservice affecting the tone of a show is absolutely spot-on. you can't talk about it these days without someone calling you a "puritan" also the Senshi shots were obviously comedic and I never saw people react to them with anything but laughing so kind of a weird argument to make. and even if you disagree, I don't think any of them distracted from an otherwise serious scene as severely as the Falin fanservice. I find the Senshi stuff more equivalent to the shot of the ghosts dragging Marille away while she's in her underpants and you see her thighs/ass flailing as she's dragged into the wall: kind of fanservicey if you're inclined that way, but mostly just funny physical humor and fits the scene

Not to start a whole Fan Service Discourse™, but I wouldn't call the scene between Marcille and Fallin fan service. There is a definite difference between a show doing "fan service" and a show choosing to portray intimacy and nudity as part of the story. Most of the time, fan service created to appeal to the male audience also comes at the detriment of the female characters. The women and girls in those scenes are embarrased, if not outright humiliated. Fan service scenes often result from another character actively spying/perving on them. I'm not a woman, but I imagine it rarely feels good to watch those moments, because the female characters in the scene also feel terrible. In the bath scene in episode 12, there is just none of that. It's a scene between two friends (some might even say roomates but that's a whole other discussion) where neither of them is made to feel uncomfortable. I'm not going to say there is zero sexualisation there, we still get a few shots that are pretty revealing, but compared to some other shows, this is definitely on the tame side. The scene also doesn't drop out of nowhere with no reason. Fallin was just resurrected and is absolutely soaked in blood, makes sense that she would want to take a bath. Marcille is seeing her for the first time in days after thinking she lost her forever. This moment would be pretty significant for the both of them and it is : the conversation they have tells us a lot about both of their characters and the guilt they both feel about what they forced the other to go through. It's not a black-or-white situation. You could still point to some elements of the bath scene that could presumably have been made for the sake of 'sexiness' but to dismiss the whole thing as fan service and saying that the creators of Dungeon Meshi basically flipped their whole stance on the issue with a single scene seems very reductive to me. Sorry for ranting.
