I think you missed a good playmaker in the mid the most , Philips is not it, the wings were young and Kane is a finisher. Graelish would've made a big difference. Many of the best players in the PL - and certainly the first division before it - were English. In the 60s, 80s and 90s England produced some of the best football in the world. But now the vast majority of footballers in the Premier League are foreign. So - if they only callup from top flight - theres hardly anyone available. And then theres the FA/Southgate/Boothroyd problem of racism in their selections. Would this have been 0-4 without Guehi? Guehi is foreign and just there to make a political statement. Same with Sterling, who is Jamaican, not English. Neither are there because theyre good enough. Or even eligible. Bellingham is utterly useless for England - he and the vast majority of darker-skinned players under Southgate were given callups as a 'virtue signal'. Saka another example for this match. They are not good enough either. Darker-skinned players, like lighter-skinned players, used to be selected because they were Good. Now over half the team is selected on Politics. And Declan Rice chose Ireland over England. Maybe that too helps his selection, being more 'multicultural' (ha) than a purely anglo-saxon 'chav'. Hes also bloody useless in midfield. So I think its because 'English' football is too foreign that England arent back to their 90s level.

My biased perspective: this defeat was NOT the the result of awful football and incompetent players... It was clearly the result of bad leadership. To put it simple: the English team does not seem to be a TEAM at all... No real motivation to win, completely missing the "brothers in arms" feeling... This "team" could be beaten by a group of beavers on an exceptionally rainy day. My advice: whoever are the managers and coaches, exile them to the farthest island you still have jurisdiction over. :D

Whjat is missing: "being a cohesive group under some shared values" Usually nations and religions are among the strongest, but when combined with tradition, history and culture, that makes it solid. Why is it that the fat, worthless lazy guy can ALSO cheer for "his" team playing and winning? Because it carries the basic tribal instinct that they are fighting for HIM. Remove that and the whole "sport team and its fans" dynamic becomes completely meaningless and empty. That is EXACTLY what I have seen here, and it starts with that also completely empty gesture of self humiliation which achieve only one thing: desecrates the symbol of unity (that desecration was booed in Hungary, and not the anthem.
