I am a woman born in the Netherlands but with Indonesian blood in me. You know that in the Netherlands we call that Indo's or Indisch. My father spent 4 years in a Japanese camp. With the help of a fellow inmate (who later became his best friend) and his faith, he survived. In 1955 he came to the Netherlands with my mother. All my brothers, sisters and I were born in the Netherlands. Physically and mentally he still has something left over from the years that he was imprisoned. He died 3 days before my 6th birthday at the age of 50 from the effects of those years. He has always hated that he had to leave Indonesia. His body was in the Netherlands, but I think his heart was in Indonesia. My mother, on the other hand, never felt the need to return, although it is such a beautiful country. My brothers took over the love for Indonesia from him. Especially my second brother, although he has never been to Indonesia, although he would love to go. My oldest brother went to Indonesia a few years ago. He enjoyed it so much and loved it. My father's love for Indonesia lives on with them. Sometimes I have the idea that my second brother's past is still alive. I think we should learn from the past and take care and hope it never happens again. Enjoy Indonesia. Although Japan has done a lot to my father and other relatives, including my grandmother on my mother's side, I don't let that affect me. I also love Japan. It is even true that my children move more to Japan, although their father (my ex) is also Indo. My oldest lived there for a year. We can no longer change the past, we make the future ourselves. Don't judge someone by the past. Give each other love and peace and we are already well on the way. Sorry, a long story 😊

So much complexity was added also with Japan involving for those few years. The camps were terrible, sad to hear it kinda took your grandfather’s heart and love.. i like how everybody is looking forward. Hopefully everybody is able to find the thing and get to the place that they feels best with.

@@JesseReacts My father was often put in isolation, often not given water or bread. Yes it was terrible. He himself never said much about it. But he had become very hard. We also noticed this in his upbringing towards us. Physically and mentally. Until recently, I didn't show my emotions easily, just kept smiling and all that. Even when I had a bad accident. I just kept going. For we had learned from him not to show our weakness. Now I know better. One day I hope that all people will learn from it, although I doubt it

One of the interesting things living in Indonesia is.. when you visit another island, it feels like visiting another country. The language, the food, the culture are all different, sometimes the people too (different race). Especially visiting rural area where not all people able to speak Bahasa Indonesia, me Jane you Tarzan it is lol

Yeah i am glad we finally officially excused ourselves. Which also means the country is required to aid in multiple ways. Late, but i guess it shows remorse from the current generation. Clearly the cultures are still heavily intertwined. Here in the Netherlands and i assume the footprint is still apparent there. I am happy you’re able to talk about words like forgiveness. Guess that’s also a way of showing independence and moving on in the right direction 💪 happy the Netherlands and Indonesia are good these days. Would love to visit one day.

Among the parts of the Indonesian anthem included by Novia Bachmid: 1. Lingsir wengi comes from the island of Java especially central Java. 2. Cik Cik Periuk comes from the Sambas, West Kalimantan. 3. Sinanggar Tulo came from Northern Sumatra. 4. Ayo Mama from the Maluku islands. 5. Anging Mammiri came from South Sulawesi. 6. Lalo Ngaro came from Sasak Lombok East. 7. Tanduk Majeng came from the Madura islands. 8. The last of our national anthem from Indonesia was the one of Mengheningkan Cipta, Shanna Shannon sang in white between the flames. I really appreciate for your video reaction of this Alffy Rev's work. He is so talented DJ, cinematography director, and artist. On that video visualy give us Through this video, it gives us an overview of the diversity of ethnicity in Indonesia, both in terms of dance, culture, folk songs, and a sense of patriotism towards the homeland. Our spirit of nationalism flared up discussing all of this, because all nations know that Indonesia is known as a nation that has a high sense of love for the homeland, during the struggle era it was recognized by guerrilla techniques because not only the military fought in the war, but also the people who fought together for their country. If 1 soldier in battlefield 1000 people also come forward to fight together.. Nowaday there are 275 million inhabitants of Indonesia those who are ready to fight if our country's sovereignty is disturbed.. However, we are aware from the philosophy of our ancestors and our leaders after independence that in this life if we have "1 enemy is too much and 1000 friends is too few" that's mean we all Indonesian people prefer peace, not aggressive as a country, not considering superior as a nation over any other country, but we are all equal as humans.
