These are cork oaks. The bark is used for multiple applications, including wine bottles cork taps. Morocco, Portugal and Spain have the biggest plantations in the world.

Nice footage. Also, the bark from those trees is called 'cortiça', the trees are called 'sobreiros'. The cork is used on many applications l, the most commonly known is the wine bottle cork, but in the latest years many other uses have been found, namely insolation on homes and even in the aerospace industry. Welcome to Portugal, enjoy your stay. There are many beautiful places to visit and some offroad tracks to explore.

Like many have commented, the trees with the bark removed are Cork Oaks. The bark of the Cork Oak is actually cork. After a cork oak is planted, the first cork is ready to harvest after about 7 years. The first harvest is poor quality. After that, the cork can be harvested once every 5 years.

They are de barked every 9 years, numbers you see painted indicate the year was last done. My family owns a few them, as a kid I had to paint them with the number. 😁

Good, the trees cut down in the middle are for cork, and the year in which they were removed is marked. I would like to ask if they paid for the license in Portugal to be able to fish on the coast, which I doubt you did. I just feel stupid because I in Portugal pay everything properly and the foreigner comes here and does not pay or I suppose. thanks for the clarification.
@offtrackfamily2 жыл бұрын
Yes cork trees was explained 👍. Are you talking about the fishing licence for non residents at about 15 euros for a week. There are fishing licences in Switzerland too, one for rivers and another one for lakes.
@SuperNofound2 жыл бұрын
@@offtrackfamily More or less, you would have to be requested at the ICNF offices for non-residents, did you make that request? Yes, it is valid for 7 days or 30 days, depending on what you request. Just a comment, because in Portugal everything has to be paid for, and normally people from abroad forget to do it, and it is a very clear justification to give to the police.

Thanks for great and pleasant video! As always! I'm planning family trip to same area in Portugal in 2022. Is it OK to free camp in Portugal, along the cost (as you did here in video)? Or was it a "lucky shot" with hoping no-one would come and hand over a fine? :-) I would love to go there, but afraid someone would come in the middle of the night and demand us to leave, with packing and family... omg... haha

Thanks! We did encounter any problem on that side. I must admit we didn't know the new rule and were informed only on the spot via social media. For sure many surfers were camping near some of the beaches we passed by but no idea how they manage this interdiction.

Love your adventure videos. 👍Thanks for a look at part of the world I probably will never see. Is it common to have such poor quality fuel in Western Europe? It appears you are always having to deal with contaminated fuel.🧐
@ocervin3 жыл бұрын
Agree - nice videos and lovely trips. I can answer on the fuel - NO! Fuel in all Europe is absolute top notch class. This must be from the car, or from some other reason.

Bonjour bravo pour la video. Nous nous rendons en famille au Portugal cet été pour un trip similaire, 4x4 presque identique mais pas le meme ;-).
