The shop I work for has a Trennjaeger saw like that one, We don't know how to say it either. It's been abused, but not near as hard as that one has by the look of it. But it does a really nice job cutting when it has a good blade on it. I haven't been to an auction in a long time but I've been to a few like that one where everything went for pennies compared to what it should have. I was a lot younger then, and I didn't realize how much of a bad day that was for the owner. Thanks for sharing, friend!

Good advice regarding auctions. Sometimes things go for crazy money, but more often than not, not so much. Glad you were able to scoop up some deals. Really like that drill bit grinder, nice!

@@perpetualmotion1 Ebay has a few manuals related to it. One is: Sellers 4G 20D, Drill Grinder Instructions and Parts Identifications Manual ($46). Hope this helps.

Nice finds! I used to have a Clausing gang drill with a 7' table. Sure miss that machine.

Yes you pronounced that correctly. I have used one at the Stahl truck body plant. Very good machine. I have an auction coming up that has a Bridgeport mill vise. Looks to be in good shape. What would be a fair market value? AL B.
@perpetualmotion119 күн бұрын
Are you talking about one of the Bridgeport brand vises or the Kurt style? Kurts usually bring about $200-250 the older Bridgeport branded vises are about $150 in my experience.

Nice buys. Auctions are fuckle places. I've seen that same kind of thing. Stuff going for cheap. I have a tendency to talk myself out of bidding because I don't want to have to deal with removal and I have a very small shop. But I have also seen the same kinds of stuff sell for 4x what I would have paid and considered a good price. You just never know. When it happens to a small shop, I feel worse than when it's a larger operation that needs to liquidate.

He actually got exactly what everything was worth. That’s the problem with old equipment. It’s worth very little. If it was worth more, people would have bid more. I’ve been to many auctions over the decades. Basically, most equipment, even if it’s in good shape, goes for little. Occasionally, some hobbyists, who have no idea of the value, will bid something up well beyond what it’s worth, but that an exception.
@perpetualmotion116 күн бұрын
The same equipment that went for pennies on the dollar at this auction would sell for many times that at the local used equipment dealer. Case in point is the 8" capacity commercial cold saw with auto bar feed and coolant system, it is a $3000-5000 saw all day at any used equipment dealer, it brought $125. This particular auction was severely handicapped by being very remote and happening during a blizzard.
@melgross16 күн бұрын
@ auctions always bring very little for old equipment. Companies that resell it have to charge more. Warehousing costs money. So does listing it. So does answering questions. Possibly doing some referb such as cleaning out much crap. It’s all about supply and demand. Nobody cared enough about the equipment there to offer more. That the answer. It’s worth what it goes for. Of course, everyone there could have said that this equipment is worth so much more, that I’ll pay so much more. Did anyone do that, or did they just pay the minimum? Maybe that says something about the people who bought the equipment.

This was an online only auction, the bid increments were preset, that was another detail that suppressed the outcome. My original point in the video is quite simple, don't sell stuff in an auction if you want top dollar. You would be money ahead to just sell it directly to a dealer as a package.
@melgross16 күн бұрын
@ I understand. I also can’t fault your advice. I’m just saying that something is only worth what people are willing to pay for it when it’s being sold. There’s no point is getting upset about it.

That Procunier tapper is really good for "pipe taps". It will keep you from "pulling " the threads. Worth its weight in gold.

I can see where that would work good. In my environment I very rarely do more than one or two of anything so the setup time for a one off isn't justified.

In my area, Georgia, shops are closing left and right. I go to quite a few auctions and I see the same thing. I hate it, because the guys loading most of the time are former employees who are soon going to be out of work. I feel like a vulture. They are nice machines though

Did you instruct wiggles on the "Triangle of Safety"? I remember that from forklift training when I briefly worked at a Cat dealer. The sellers Drill grinder is a beauty Andy. well done. Poor old saw. Since you have it load a countersink in the Jet and leave it there. Just an idea. cheers
@perpetualmotion120 күн бұрын
Not a bad idea with the countersink. The previous owner mentioned that he has a couple more of those Rockwell heads in the shed that he took off from it. I thought I might see what he wanted for another one and just replace the jet with another Rockwell.

Depreciation is definitely expected, but in this instance stuff went for literally pennies on the dollar of what it ought to go for used ☹️ I'm certain he would have been money ahead to just have an equipment dealer come in and buy the whole thing as a lot even with their cut rate prices.

@ ok that’s good to know, I was bidding on it. A day later was called by the auctioneer asking me how much more I can go. I asked them for more details on it like the year of it etc. I tried calling them and emailing them for the info the next day and I’m getting no response. Was curious if they ended up selling it to someone else. I might try to call the owner.
