Norwegian Fjord Horses are such a good breed of horse! I have one (soon two) and they are amazing. It always shocks me how rare they are in other countries outside of my own, I live in Norway btw. I see them everywhere, so that might be why im a bit shocked haha

And that's the reason why i LOVE fjord horses. They aren't too big or too small. They have the perfect size and shape. Just perfect for me. I love smaller horses like Fjord, Merens, Haflingers. In my country austria the Fjords and Haflingers are very common, but Merens are rare.

I love watching you go to auctions my first trip to a horse auction I was so overwhelmed there were nice ones but there were the walking dead ones looked like skeletons! I so wanted to take them all home and the owners just leave them. I did buy a black stud who was eating his stall they didn't have food or water. Blackjack turned out to be the best and loving horse. Also guard dog lol he protected his home and family. Thank you for showing me what a real auction looks like.

I have seen a foundation App cutting cattle well into their late 20s. She lived to be 35, and cut cattle until her last 2 years when she was no longer able to hold condition. Sway backed, sleepy looking until she was pointed at a calf or steer in the rodeo ring. Then she changed into this alert spry and athletic mare. Afterwards, back to tired looking old mare, but could see that little spark of satisfaction in her eye and little bit in her step. Lots of loving from her family as well. She was black with ivy spots over her hips when younger, nearly white all over when she passed in the field with her herd mates and family showing her how much they would miss her. She hadn't been eating for about 2 weeks prior, but still looked for hugs and scratches until that last day when she was too tired and ready to go.

I owned a Norwegian Fjord X Welsh pony, She was an amazing pony. Good looking, nicely conformed, gentle, safe with children and she was excellent in the hunting field. She had a brave heart. She could jump amazingly well! She was always calm and gave great confidence to myself and my children. She was only 13.3hh but had a good gait and was very comfortable to ride in all ways. She was called Mischief a name given to her by an old farmer on whose farm she lived as a foal because she was cheeky and curious. I had her from her being 8years to 28years when she died naturally. She was well loved by us. I would say a one in a million. She was my dream pony.

I was at a Auction looking for a project horse and I saw a buckskin with spray paint all down his back and I asked what type of spray paint/paint they used and they showed like actual spray paint sow we took the horse home and when we washed it off all off all of the horses skin was infected we took him to the vet and they said the horse needed a type of medication to survive, he’s now doing well and I decided to name him miracle

Don’t comment Well I feel I must in regards to the horse being ridden to demonstrate their suitability those people need to take a refresher course as they didn’t exhibit a very high riding standard. I also Hate the way that people ride the horses into the auction I mean these poor animals are already stressed!!! For once I’m great full that I live in Australia where we are not as exposed to this style of auction. I appreciate your candidness in your videos it’s very refreshing. 🐴🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

Interesting! And very odd to see a fjord horse in a action. In Norway we don’t have animal auctions for any animals except cattle. And the few that are more a curiosity for markets. The animals laws here regarding living conditions, transport and health bills for the animals are so strict that it it makes little sense to buy and hold animals through actions. Sincerely, a Norwegian citizen(and previously fjord horse rider)!

One thing I noticed is that some riders had spurs and that can actually leave a mark on the horse and could cause them pain.and the person riding the dark coloured pony at the start of the bidding was a bit too big for it their feet were nearly touching the ground and that can cause back problems. Big Lick is that horrible artificial gait that TN walking Horses have that is caused by inhumane chemical burning ( called soring) and chains ( with stacks, or thick shoe pads ) on a horses front feet . It should be illegal but it brings obscene amounts of money into the area so it’s protected by some law enforcement and the politicans who all get a piece of that money. Even the Goverment required inspections for evidence of soring, (scaring from the chemical burns) isn’t done reliably or well enough, lots of times it’s just ignored. Money talks. Just Google it, it’s too horrible to describe. The TN walking horse breeders say they take care of their horses, one are sold to kill auctions. But that’s not true. I’ve seen them myself. They just destroy the registration papers so you can’t trace the horse back to it’s breeder. Lots of broken down Big Lick horses go through the kill auctions. My family had mules and donkeys . My dad was disabled so he would take a team of mules and plow peoples hillside gardens where a tractor could t safely go ( no mono tractors or rototillers in East Tennessee where I lived when I was a child “ . So I got tossed up on the backs of working mules a lot. Dad had two teams of two mules each team. Big rangy mules. I loved them for their patience. I could literally fall,asleep onnthe or backs , just lay back with on their rumps and they’d just walk slowly and softly around and graze wirh me asleep on their backs. They really loved the grooming I would give them. We had a creek and in the hot summer they would stand in the shallows and I’d wash them,off….. they wouid usually just roll right after so a waste of time but they sure loved it. I never got stepped on, kicked, bit or thrown …. They all seemed to understand I was a child and to be gentle wirh me. And a funny site is to see a working mule, get unharnessed, be all sweaty and watch the, roll in the dirt for a dirt bath. And as a personal pet I had a little Jenny that would ride or drive. Sweet little thing and too smart for her own good, she would open the gate, walk up the porch steps and stick her head through the screen door begging for cornbread! Lol! My mom hated that! My dad died and we had to sell all of the stock and that just broke my heart. The mules were braying as they were trailered off. Just killed me . If my husband and I can find a place more rural to downsize, I want to get a mammoth Jack to ride. ( Google Mammoth Jack, they have paints and Appaloosa colors too! So beautiful!) Mules and donkeys are just awesome for trail riding in my experience. . Safe and don’t take chances , , usually not easily spooked and have a unique outlook on life . My personal feeling is I would rather have a donkey or a mule than a horse. I’ve had some bad experiences wieh horses , some just being nasty and intentionally hurting people.

It's kinda funny that a Fjord is so rare in America.. when in Norway we pretty much have at least one or two at every barn
@freespiritequestrian
@freespiritequestrian 2 жыл бұрын
Well they are Norwegian haha! They are around the US, you just don’t see them everyday. What breeds are rare in Norway? :)
@VeronicaEquestrienne
@VeronicaEquestrienne 2 жыл бұрын
@@freespiritequestrian Yeah, they are, but in a way the are also on the red list in Norway of being "rare" so.. Uhm, we don't see a lot of mustangs or quater horses. We don't have a lot of OTTB either to be honest. Here our "OTTB" are trotting horses/harness racing horses being re-schooled to riding horses.
@freespiritequestrian
@freespiritequestrian 2 жыл бұрын
@@VeronicaEquestrienne oh wow really? If they are so common why are they on the red list (genuinely curious)? That’s not good. That’s so interesting that you don’t have many OTTBs. Mustangs actually aren’t extremely common where I’m from either. They are definitely around but you don’t see them as often since I’m in the Midwest/Eastern part of the United States. Out West they are more common since that’s where they live and are rounded up. Thank you for sharing!

@@freespiritequestrian Because of the breeding part I think it is. I haven't really looked it up to much, but right now I think there is more Norwegian Fjords in Denmark then in Norway and a lot of the ones that are in Norway now have lines from Denmark.. even though it's a Norwegian Fjord... =) But I love Fjords, they are so allround, they do dressage, jumping, driving and so on. We also have another breed in Norway called a Norwegian Dølahest (Dole horse) that is also a working horse, but are similar to the Fjord in use. I do lease one =)

@@VeronicaEquestrienne wow very interesting! Yes, Fjords are so versatile, I love that. I’ve heard of the Dole horse! They look really strong, beautiful, and hefty. That’s amazing you lease one! I love the variety and differences that other countries have to offer when it comes to horses. ❤️

Very interesting. You love your horses so I'm sure it is hard not to buy. Especially the baby one you could have had forever. I didn't know they could get so expensive. I'm not here to buy she said... I thought for sure your eyes were saying... But I can't help it ! A donkey... You could have got the donkey just for a ranch attraction. Very good video!

Thank you! I wasn’t quite ready to buy again but it’s always tempting. There are many specific things when it comes to buying a horse. I don’t collect or buy to buy. If I buy something it’s a commitment and I don’t take that lightly. ❤️❤️❤️

even tho evry auction is horrible i have seen so many auctions on youtube from rescue organisations and they are so much worse then this. most of them have a pen that is clean and are not cramped together. But auctions all together is something that no horse should go trough. TT if i could i would save them all

I'm only about 4 minutes into this video so I'll probably edit the comment to add more as I continue watching it, but I was wondering how you're able to tell if it's an amish horse by looking at it? Is it the way they're built or how they were taken care of teeth, weight etc, or being a draft horse? Or personality like a really sound not skittish horse?
@freespiritequestrian
@freespiritequestrian 2 жыл бұрын
Usually they mention the horse is Amish or sometimes certain breeds are more likely to be Amish but there isn’t really a defined way to “tell”.
