The cake with a baby in it is for Mardi Gras. It's called a King Cake and very popular in Louisiana/Cajun culture. There is a small plastic baby hidden inside of the cake and when it is served, the person whose piece has the baby in it is considered the "king/queen" of the rest of the celebration and is said to be blessed with luck for the year. They are also responsible for hosting the Mardi Gras party the next year and providing the king cake. My mom grew up in Louisiana and most of her family still lives there so Mardi Gras was always a must for us growing up, we traveled to Louisiana every year! It was a lot of fun.
