It's amazing what you and your family do for the stock . A little time back we had a first year hefer and walking around with her tail in the air. Went in to eat lunch and she was on her side trying to give birth unable to get her up we pulled the calf but a little too long in the birth canal and not breathing. Decided to give it CPR through it nosturles with a lot of pressure from my lungs and god bless it worked my grandmother said she had never seen anything like that before. Love your black Angus herd and the bulls are impressive. Take care and hope your family is doing great and healthy. Mark Buell

“Did I ever tell you about the time I saved a calf’s life?” Not Brian - me. Calf was lying in the middle of the field in its own afterbirth. Ninety degrees & sunny. No mom or other cows around. I put it in my truck and drove it to a shed roof area out of the sun. I guess mom cow finally found it cause it lived. And that’s all I got to say about that.
@leighcowley98693 жыл бұрын
Oh ya. I remember one night about two in the morning I went to one field where I calved. I had three fields that I calved in about eight miles apart. I drove down and saw a cow calving. She was wild and mean. Didn’t have a horse so on foot I snuck around on the dark side a caught her first throw. That’s not really normal. Anyway she took off and I was being dragged until she got tired and ran out of air. I worked her towards a stack yard post and dallied up. She fought the rope and choked down a few times. All I could see was something sticking out like a piece of afterbirth. But it want very long. I finally got her to stand. It was about zero degrees at the time. My hands were numb and when I finally put my hands inside of her I couldn’t feel anything. But it sure felt good and warm. When some feeling started to come back I could tell what was hanging out of her. The calf’s tail. Well I started to push the calf back in and I would just about get it to where I could get the hind legs out and she would push the calf back where I started. For about a half hour I fought this. Now my arms and hands were going numb because she had pushed all the blood out of them. I gave it one big push and got the calf back in far enough to get the hind legs. I wrapped some twine around the feet and pulled. I thought the calf would be dead but it was wiggling on the way out. It came out pretty easy by this time the cow had laid down pushing. As soon as I got the calf out I reached up and got the rope off her head and she jumped up to chase me but the calf caught her attention. She licked it off and the next morning the calf had sucked and all was well. Beat that one. Lolololo

@@briansonne814 they are bad. Usually they don’t make it. The ones I hate are the ones that have a front leg back and the head and one foot are partially out. Where are you ranching at. I’m in the frozen waste land of northern Utah. When my ancestors came from the Isle of Man they were cattlemen for many generations. In fact lea or ley means meadow. So Cowley means cow in the meadow. They immigrated in the 1850’s just after the Mormons were driving out of Illinois by mobs in the dead of winter for religious beliefs. When my great great grandfather arrived in a town called Nauvoo which is where the Mormons were driven from, there were a few members who risked their lives that stayed behind to help immigrants travel to council bluff Iowa to a place called Winter Quarters. My great great grandfather was told that they needed cattle where the Mormons had settled in what was first called the land of Deseret. It was spread from the now boarder of Colorado to the east to part of California on the west and part of Idaho and Wyoming on the north and to the border of Arizona. They didn’t want neighbors I think. Lololo. So my great great grandfather drive a herd of cattle from Nauvoo Illinois to the territory of Deseret. When they got there they leader of the church at that time was Brigham Young. He asked them to settle south in Arizona. They left and came back two years later and said it was “too damn Hot”. So half of them settled in central Utah and the idiots came to northern Utah. Lolol. Bet you can’t guess which ones were my ancestors were. Lololo
