Qualifying for Europe as mentioned + clubs in Sweden are very dependent on spectator numbers for income if not in Europe. The cup in Sweden is strange because it qualifies to a group stage during autumn (the end of a season) and then the group stage and playoffs are during spring, starting in pre-season. This was a try to get more people to care about the cup
