This is the most unrealistic film on modern war ever made. This isn't even an urban war. And you have those vietnamese soldiers running directly towards them out in the open with no cover and no strategy. This looks more like the first world war than the war in vietnam.

David Starkey "outnumbered 10 to 1, the fought, survived and won the field..true americans.." which is what happens when you fight people with no real airforce or artillery (at least from this movie's perspective) funny how often america wins against countries with weaker and lesser militaries then theirs huh?
@mckenzie.latham91
@mckenzie.latham91 8 жыл бұрын
jacobdot456 "Well, how would we lose to a weaker country." exactly, so bragging about it sounds kind of pointless, not too mention the fact that in this case the US failed in it's mission to stop the spread of communism in Vietnam, lost 40k + troops, killed, deformed and or poisoned thousands upon thousands of civilians, etc. but of course we need to focus on how great the american military is. As for fighting the spread of communism, really? like the many dictatorships, brutal cartels (such as the contras and those in Panama canal) and other puppet governments America established in south america to fight communism were so better? but i get it, when it's other people who have to live with the consequences it's easier for americans to pass off the unashamed boasting and bragging and jingoistic bullcrap. "And there's a reason nobody has wanted to fight us" yeah it's called nuclear deterrent, you know that thing that sparked the cold war and was one of the contributing factors as too why this Vietnam proxy war began in the first place. and i call bull on that, plenty of nations want to fight the US, you're currently in two middle eastern countries right now fighting people who decided to take their fight to US soil, while the rest are fighting you because once again america needs to dig into other countries for it's self imposed stake in the pie. i find it interesting that the only time we seem to celebrate and or condemn the underdog, is when it's involved in war. I find this attitude typical and pathetic, sorry i don't see how i could overlook my pride in my country when that country rather spends billions on tanks and planes that just get left to waste in junk heaps since their army can't hold anymore then feed it's homeless, support it's poverty stricken kids etc. but hey when it comes to blowing up people--especially women and children, have as much pride as you want, that's the only real legacy america has around the world.

360Nomad LOL back in the day, I remember A10s doing dummy practice runs on our M1s and coming down so low you could SEE the pilot inside the cockpit. In the making of this movie, the jets that are used were CGI shopped (the super sabres), but the prop driven skyraiders were apparently all real. If you are asking if they were that low in that day, in 1965, I would say they probably not THAT low, but still under any minimum normal ceiling. They didn't have the complex guidence systems of today, it was done by eye, and they were dropping them so close to the lines they HAD to get close. Some of the aircraft that day were getting hit with shrapnel from their own bombs. That should say enough.
@FlayvorOfEvil

"Broken Arrow" didn't mean a unit was overrun ---- but in danger of being overrun. Also, Mel Gibson's character would not have the authority to make that call. Broken Arrow was an exclusive USAF radio code used exclusively within tactical Air Force channels. An Army ground commander not only had no authority to issue the code, but he probably didn't even know it existed. Broken Arrow WAS called at LZ X-Ray, but by the USAF FAC (forward air controller) Lieutenant Charlie Hastings, who didn't need the Army commander's permission to call the code, or even the obligation to tell him that it was done. This was in the early days of the War when USAF FACs accompanied battalion sized Army units on the ground. In short order, the FAC's were put in the air and their only contact with the ground was by radio. In fact, Hastings was shot down later in his tour. An important thing to remember is that the FAC worked for the Air Force; not the Army, and the ground commander could only request TACAIR support ---- the FAC would evaluate and prioritize the request based on need, resources and even safety issues. And yes, the planes are wrong ---- Air Force FACs didn't call on Navy carrier Phantoms. Air Force TACAIR support both Army and Marine ground ops, but the Navy/Marine carrier arm supported only its own.

Many of the A-6 shots were actually from the Film "Flight of the Intruder". I recognize that shot at 0:44-0:46. They were going to Subic Bay in that film.

Its kinda strange that the Phantoms and Thunderchiefs were not around as they were the USAF's workhorses during the conflict. The F-100 Super Sabers were still a sight to see though.

Cam Ward As far as my knowledge goes, the F-100 Super Sabers were not fielded as much as the say MiG-19 by the Soviets. And the F-86 Saber was being replaced by the Delta Dagger. You are right that the SKyraiders were very much abundant throughout. The primary workhorses as far as I know were A-6 Intruder, the Thunderclap, Thunderstreak, Thunderjet, Thunderchief and the Starfighter. And again you are right with the Phantoms coming in later in which the gen 1 sucked balls.

The Axis PoweR I don't know, I've read the book by former Col. Hal Moore and Joseph Galloway and they mention that part when his outpost in X-ray or was it Albany was getting over run by the NVA/Vietcong. Still it's nuts-Nazi symbol, huh? Ach du liber?!? schones wochenende, mein heir.

Old glory Your brain is completely brainwashed by this kind of movie lol Sure the operation might is real but everything else is fake and shit. There is a scene where americans charging and stabbing them with bayonet, when did that ever happend? in fact murican lost like 4 men and half of the vietnamese army die by bayonets another half die by huey coming out of nowhere and fly above their base like 10 meter from the ground? cleaning the base up and return unharmed. I say fk your propaganda movie so hard.

the part where the bombers bomb too close, and friendly fire ensues... This movie was hard to watch because of that. But also real. When they try to evac that one guy with the burnt legs (who had a fam that he kept talkin bout} And they tried to pick him up but his tarred flesh slided off. Very real, Very disturbing. Just one event among many in the casualties of war

0:10 Really cool detail. If you look on more you can see the classic U.S ARMY Gold on black tape but because Hastings is the Airforce leason Officer he wears the U.S AIR FORCE White on blue tape. Really fine detail for sad people like me to pick up on.

Every detail in this movie was well thought out. They even invited the real guy, Col. Hal Moore to supervise and give advise in the making of the movie. Except a few battle scenes that were way too biased.

All military personnel should always be respectful to personnel from all branches, especially Air Force. I never understood the jokes towards Air Force personnel. When you are pinned down like this in a firefight, overwhelmed by superior fire power and you can't call on Herbies to carry out arty fire missions, you better be praying to the Heavens that air support is inbound asap and will destroy the enemy with surgical strikes when it's danger close!
@TheLAGopher
@TheLAGopher 5 жыл бұрын
Front line Infantrymen always take the piss out of support personnel which is what the Air Force enlisted side almost entirely is. The Grunts know that when the shit hits the fan, the difference between being overrun or not is close air support.
