Can’t believe you didn’t get some local apricots!:) those Romanian ones will change your idea of what an apricot should taste like - and they have tasty kernels as well, yum (first let them set and then smash them with a rock to get the kernel inside)! Also those fresh walnuts are heaven when you peel them!

hi guys! I'm Romanian living in Toronto for almost 10 years and still hunkering for the good taste of Romania. I feel jealous for you tasting it without me. Love the market videos! How great that you're there in summer when all the fresh fruit and veggies are in season. Even though those little red and blue berries are sour, Romanians (and all Eastern Europeans) use them to make delicious homemade fruit jam and preserves, soups and stews, and meat glazes to add flavor without too much sweetness.
@JetLagWarriors3 жыл бұрын

'Cerb' means 'stag'. Good choice though. Those red cranberries 'coacaze' that grow like grapes are actually currants, but romanians tend to mix up the names (or they're outright reversed in some regions). You missed out on some really good peaches (those big and dark ones are sweeter than any doughnut peach in the world, but unless you cut them with a knife, you'll make a mess of your face). If you're ever in a Romanian market again, look for black cherries - they're their own species, smaller and actually black. Those are THE sweetest cherries (unless it's the bitter type used more in jams and drinks, but those are sold separately). You found a decent strain there though. The 'nectarines' are actually apricots. Nectarines are a bit larger and meatier, and not as sweet (you can recognize them by their red color and lack of fuzz). 'Burduf' is traditional sheep cheese Glad to see you enjoy the place!

Hope you enjoyed the food. The football shaped cheese (burduf) is salted and kneaded sheep milk cheese traditionally wrapt in a sheep’s stomach or skin, or in pine bark. Loved the video! You guys should hit the local markets in every place you visit in Romania, you'll find that often times other cities have less organized markets but the products are closer to the natural homemade look and taste, especially the cheese and meat products. Definitely try the ones from local farmers, try smoked cheese (cascavea), also try fresh whey cheese, it's heavenly if you come across the fatter type, it's sort of a local ricotta called urda, great for your health and dieting. If you ever come across people selling homemade Zacusca by the jar (They usually sell other pickled or preserved foods as well) buy it, it should taste better than both store bought and restaurant one. Looking foreward to future videos, have a nice and safe stay here!

The fruits at the market are organic and natural mostly and cheaper than those at the supermarket. Plus fruit and veggies at supermarket are GMO and greenhouse produce.

Hi, if you liked the Bucharest subway, you must visit M4, the green line because there you can see the oldest subway trains in Bucharest, some of these trains have some interesting graffiti. Have a nice trip to Romania!

Min. 3:23 - donut peaches cost 3.99$C / lb in Canada Piața Obor = Obor Market is the BEST in Bucharest City. Min. 16:04 - sour cherry = vișine (read as : vihsheneh) costed me 30 $C for 3.6 Kg picked by myself in an orchard. In that market cost you ONLY 5.90 lei / Kg = 1.80 $C. The difference is amazing.
