I’ve driven deep into Tanami desert several times with Warlpiri mob back in the early 90s. It was when I worked for CLC. Teaches you a lot about fixing flat tyres, and then how to avoid getting them. Bloody beautiful country out there.

Spent 6 weeks just south of the Granites mine site. Doing survey for Sons of Gwalia looking for gold. Driving gridlines all day. Fixing spiked tyres in the evening. Running 12 ply tyres. Good fun. :-)

Forget the 4wheeling, these guys are walking around in shorts and sandals in the bush in a country full of some of the most deadly creatures. Australians for the win on not giving an Ef.

A set of 12 ply trojans with split rims would get us a few months of puncture-free time but once they started to get worn down the stakes would get through they were ugly and next to useless but boy did they stop most of the punctures. I could remove a tyre and fix a puncture in a few minutes, we were offroad with mine exploration camping in some really remote areas. is a beautiful place when you came to appreciate it, but you must always respect it and be prepared.

Hot tip for survival in the bush : your drone can get higher and survey much more than climbing a windmill tower, and won't risk you getting busted up !

Makes sense to repair what you have left, better to risk a repaired tire then a new one. Too many of those type of puncture will ruin your day really quick.

Hang on, what's the deal with the tin can sidewall repair🤔 that needs further explanation please.
@47Rolling4 жыл бұрын
Tim S stops the plugs from being pushed out by the tyres air pressure especially when the tyres are actually running lower PSI as they flex more.
@Finke.4 жыл бұрын
Low air pressure for offroad so the tin stops the plug spitting out ... sidewall rips aren't good & are a death knell for tyres ...
@tererez4 жыл бұрын
also wondering. Is it to keep the plug in place? And what did they drill in to secure it? Wouldn't the tire leak from the new holes?
@tererez4 жыл бұрын
@@47Rolling what did they drill in?
@47Rolling4 жыл бұрын
Nathan Waweru they just used a couple of screws to hold the tin in place. It’s like when you get a nail in your tyre. It might leak a little bit but not much as long as it’s still in.

misolou fout yeah I figured it was a pump, just reciting their own words and laughing at the fact they climbed it to look around when at the same time they flew their drone around for the shot.
