Bali is one of few parts of original Indonesia before invasion of Middle East with their Judaism/Christianity/Islam. Beloved Jakarta is 1st Winner World's Best Sustainable Transportation (STA 2021), First High Speed Bullet Train in Southern Hemisphere, etc. There are only 2 Megapolitan in The World: Tokyo and Jakarta, Jakarta is 6 times size of Europe's largest city Paris (very poor in everything even fancy brands and restaurants are so poor there), is even much richer and much better nature than Tokyo. Yet, filthy western world including middle east, india and surrounding has been belittling Indonesia too long since Mercator projection 1569. This world's richest natural resources The Emerald of the Equator Indonesia in reality is huge as Russia even much richer than the rest of the world. Dutch VOC was much richer than any present day world's richest company. Yes, whole Europe was and still is built from Indonesia's limitless wealth. Yet, Indonsia is already so advanced even before eruption of Toba supervolcano 75,000 years ago including world's oldest pyramid 25,000 years old Gunung Padang Cianjur West Java. Indonesia even was much larger than present day already so huge, covering The Philippines, South Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia+Brunei, Singapore, Australia all the way to Madagascar Africa. Then Middle East and Europe came to mess around yet India as the first trouble makers. Have a look them men on Singaporean Dollar notes, Malaysian Ringgit, etc they're of Sumatra Indonesia including Singaporean National Anthem writer and composer. Michelin Star standard is just reflection of very poor nature western world, is very special to them but it's just our average standard *lol Even Coffee at Macdonald's in Indonesia are better ;) btw, Coffee is native to Indonesia and Africa not brought by Dutch they're all liars with everything even with history. Anyway from KFC to McDonald's to Domino, Pizza Hut and many more taste much better here in Indonesia than in western world, the secret is our spices and herbs. Even the best Donuts in the entire world is in Indonesia local brand. I can never forget how disgustingly greasy and tasteless the food are in Europe. Real pizza is just old bread waste mixed together just look at the history, Spaghetti is copy of Asian noodles with their limited natural resources, anyway all western world cuisines are world's lowest. Caviar and Champagne are luxury to them because of their very poor nature while those fish eggs and grapes are so everywhere around the world. Their luxury are just world's lowest ;) Indonesia, leader of G20 (Great 20 nations worldwide) 2022 and ASEAN, Association of Southeast Asia's Nations. Real Indonesia is Huge as Russia, The Real Global Superpower, World's Richest Natural Resources even only Our Oil and Gas are much more than whole Middle East. World Map is Inaccurate since Mercator projection 1569. Indonesia before Western world came originally covering present day 78 years old Republic of Indonesia, Malaysia (Man on Ringgit Malaysia is one of our Forefathers, One of Kings of Our Minangkabau West Sumatra Indonesia settled Negeri Sembilan Kingdom Malaysia), Singapore (also the Man on Singaporean Dollar, and Singaporean National Anthem Writer and Composer from my beloved belated Mother's birth place Bukittinggi West Sumatra), Brunei, The Philippines (Mindanao and Manila City were founded by our Forefathers Kings of Minangkabau Sumatra Indonesia before Spaniards came), South Thailand, Vietnam, Australia and Madagascar Africa. Original Hindu is from Indonesia not India. Hindu in India isn't the authentic hindu. As Hindu is Indo, Indus, Indo Nesos. All Indo around the world (indo persian, indo european, indo american, etc) came from here especially because of the mega eruption of world's largest volcanic eruption 75,000 years ago results today world's largest volcanic lake, Toba Lake Sumatra, including world's oldest pyramid on West Java 25,000 years old "Gunung Padang" not Egypt ;) the air in Egypt is so dry and far off the equator line. Indus islands: Real Lost Atlantis when Sumatra, Borneo, Java and Bali were connecting as One. The Real Center of all world's ancient modern civilizations. Mother of Sumer (Summer/Sun/Gold) = Sumer Tera = Sumatera = Sumatra And Real Indonesia is huge as Russia, world map is inaccurate since Mercator projection 1569. Indonesia the world's richest natural resources was and will always be the true global superpower even long before west came. Nothing coincidence Planet Earth has Chakra points as well just as human beings as we're all stardust, and stars + planets are one. The middle of Bali's 4 active volcanoes is the Planet Earth's Gate 7 to Chakra 7th Mount Kailash Tibet China/India. Central and North + East Bali were my weekend destination escaping from busy touristy South Bali. Where I met One of my Ancestors with his guardian in 2012 very early morning with 2 eyewitnesses, both were friends of mine, one of them is a professional tarot card reader but he ran away home too scared for unusual super intense metaphysical activity 😅 so they let them us 3 (me in human form and my Ancestor The King in very beautiful gold attires, shirtless but beautiful fabrics and 3/4 pants around high up to below his chest gold belt, and his floating dragon assistant also with a gold crown). As he was the one has opened my port unintentionally as he offered me to read just for fun that midnight in the tv room as we were bored conquered all hangout spots around Bali. Many paranormals including on Bali knew not to read me a tarot card unless you're prepared for the unusual.

Like that you all ended up liking Bali. It is my part time home and so many miss the essence. You obviously did end up feel a bit of it. I have traveled so many places, but what Bali offers, if one gives it a chance, is that more than any other place I have been one can truly integrate into the local community if one wants or not....many never see this or feel it, but I get the feeling that perhaps you did. Yes, traffic is mental and it can be frustrating, but if you force yourself to slow down, not be in a hurry, once can feel like one is in paradise lost. State of mind.....I will mention that tourist rarely get to see it, but there are many ways to meet and get involved locally....one might be surprised by the the small communities that work together not the island...Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist....all of whom eat, play and work together peacefully. This while the crazy tourists vibe is going....Nice to be involved with both and the local Balinese do.....church one day, but then enjoying the beach clubs in addition other days. Yes, busy, but remember that so many Balinese are employed that it doe make for a decent work environment for many....Crazy building going on which does cause real issues, but seeing the local craftsmanship going into the villas and business, it also makes one appreciate the work ethic and artisanship of the Balinese,,,,,Try to make it back for Nyepi....ture blending of Bali Spirit and it just an amazing way to attempt to understand the true essence of the island.

aww I love Bali - the beautiful culture and landscape, and the locals are so kind and sweet. just the reality is its such a shame that its overtouristed and maybe getting gentrified as you said. My parents went in the 1980s, then they took me when I was 18 - and they were both really sad to see what's happened to it :( Its still worth visiting for sure but I think the instagram vs reality situation will be a shock for a lot of people. Just to enlighten you it’s always like that. If this is the first time you both have been it has not actually gotten worse it’s just very fast paced especially with bikes and children on backs of mums it’s very scary with little kids trying to cross the narrow roads in Bali. Lots of bike accidents occur there.

So its certainly not Paradise Lost, yet, but the attraction you and so many other people feel for Bali could disappear if too many tourists visit and especially choose to live on the Island. A case of killing the Goose that lays the golden eggs.

The southern part of Bali was either swamp land which was kuta or residential with rice terrace which is canggu is never the cultural and scenic attraction except the beach. Ubud, east and west are still full of hundreds of waterfalls, centuries old temples and cascadibg rice terraces

Having first visited Bali in 1997 and a few times since, I can tell you that the Kuta/Legian area has long lost some of its appeal (to me, at least). Back then, most tourists were Australian backpackers and had far fewer vehicles. Mass tourism is not a good thing.

Bali is a great place. But oh yeah, the traffic. By the way, if you get in an accident there it is always your fault - it was explained to me - the thinking in Bali is if you get in an accident, it is always your fault - because you came to Bali. If you hadn't come to Bali there would not have been an accident. Go figure.
