Then one day, the immortal receives a phone call from a much older immortal. How about two-millenia old? Malevolent, violent, vicious, and intent on harming others. 'Forever' lasted one season but the makers were able to provide satisfactory closure. Another great series in which Judd Hirsch co-stars is 'Numb3rs'. Hirsch portrays the father of two sons. One son is a team-leading law enforcement officer of the F.B.I., the other son is a genius mathematics professor. Premise for the series is basically, maths professor helps law enforcement solve crimes using mathematics.

The nuke scene was pretty shocking and really did convey a complete sense of hopelessness of the situation. The aliens simply shrugged off humanity’s deadliest weapon and kept going. FYI: In the expanded lore, once the computer virus was uploaded and it was confirmed that the aliens shields were down, the Russians and Chinese basically said, ‘F it’ and nuked over a dozen of the city destroyers. A harsh move to make, but it certainly was necessary given the short window that was available to the remaining Earth forces.

On top of one of the driver-side tires was another popular spot to leave the keys, though probably not for something as big as that dump truck. I know some of this has been done to death on this movie. However, you asked a question at the 26:00 mark of your video. The question is how realistic is it that something like Area 51 in Nevada, part of Nellis AFB, would be so highly classified that not even the president would know about it? Answer… not at all. The president is the final classification authority for everything within the US government. Nothing is too classified. If the president wants to know or see something highly classified, he can, and should. If the president wants to take classified material home, he only needs to ask and deem it declassified. No other person on the planet has that level of authority for US classified or sensitive materials. Not even the vice president, sec def, director of the CIA or NSA, no one. This myth kind of had its origins in the alien conspiracy which includes Area 51. Despite its many accuracy issues, I love this movie. It’s one of my favorite of all time. Great musical score by David Arnold.

Perhaps an Alien invasion is what we would actually need to wake up … but the major countries probably just blow up the planet instead of uniting

2:27 - DRUNK DAD. Randy Quaid played 'drunk dad'. You may remember him as Griswald's brother in 'National Lampoon' movies. He is brother to Dennis Quaid, and uncle to his son, Jack.

If I recall, not only did they release it in normal theaters Fourth of July weekend but they put it in drive in theaters too. I might be misremembering what year I saw it but I DEFINITELY saw it the first time at the drive in on a Fourth of July weekend up near the lake cottage we rented every Fourth of July weekend when I was a kid. Talk about an epic viewing experience ❤ such a great one!

The "what's that smell" Line was improvised from Will Smith. the place where they filmed that scene had dead shrimp in the salt ground. combined with the heat, it smelled pretty; hence the line.

Yep, everything about this movie was summer blockbuster. One of the great things about it was the use of practical effects in a lot of places. A well rounded sci fi action flick that didn't take itself too seriously. A great cast including Brent Spiner who played Data in Star Trek TNG.

You're right. This did come out in the theater on the July 4th holiday and the marketing leading up to it was great.
@luckyrobinshomestead10 ай бұрын
Yep, came out around the 4th of July and it was incredible to be in the theater. My husband and I went on Independence Day itself, first showing of the day. Since we knew someone who worked in the theater from back when my husband was a manager there in college, we got to go in early and pick out our seats before anyone else came in, so we had perfect seats, too, because we knew the best spot acoustically to be. The amount of cheering was ridiculous. Of course, some of that cheering was when the White House blew up, but most of it was when the humans got a win. I haven't seen an audience be that excited during a movie ever, and I saw the original Star Wars movies as a kid when they came out. It was such an event and amazing on the big screen. And that speech was the best presidential speech. It's up there with some of the best real ones and much more inspiring than some of the ones of my lifetime. The reaction was great.

I was a teen when the movie came out and yeah huge audience reaction. The only other movie I can think of that got big audience reactions what for Titanic, which was another epic movie experience for me. Only there wasn't a dry eye in the house near the end there.

"Of course, some of that cheering was when the White House blew up" I've been reading these comments quietly remembering a Canadian friend talk about the theatre erupting in cheers when the white house blew up. Whoops er 😛

Is this an updated version of the movie? Some of those scenes were not in the original. Especially when David's dad was talking about being in the white house. lol He's too funny.

35:40 basically if they would’ve gotten to her sooner she could’ve had a chance but the amount of blood loss inside was too severe. 39:06 I love their look. Kinda like “oh crap do we really need this guy for this mission?” 40:03 such a great speech. 41:11 this comes back to hurt him later. 47:20 remember earlier when he hit the button. It messed up the release mechanism.

We're at a highly secured secret military installation where the staff can rarely ever leave. Despite being qualified to examine aliens, we do not have blood or competent doctors to attempt saving a woman still conscious. 😁

Hi Nick! I remember the theater being fairly packed the weekend it opened, watching it on the Big screen as a huge group of viewers was great. I miss those days. This movie had quite a few of known and lesser known Stars. The guy who played- Jimmy, WS's bestie was Singer and part time actor- Harry Connick Jr. ( Great singer btw, check out his music!); Judd Huirsh(?) was the Dad to David, he's best known from the old series- Taxi. The loopy grey haired Scientist, was Brent Spiner, better known to most as - Data, from Star Trek: Next Generation. Mae Whitman was the daughter of the President; and being that you've been watching- Friends, the Secret Service guy watching out from the First Lady was actually- John Bennett Perry--Mathew Perry's father. And speaking of fathers, one of the President's advisors was- Robert Pine, Chris Pine's Father. 😊

As an EMT, I’ve had two different types of patients who said that they were going to die: 1. People who were screaming and yelling at the top of their voices, “I’m dying! I’m dying!”, and they rarely died, or were most of the time barely injured at all. Of course, there are exceptions to this, but more often than not, it didn’t happen that way, at least in my 12 years on the streets. 2. People who as calmly as they could, looked me dead in the eyes, and then said, “I’m dying.”, or “I think it’s my time.”, or “I’m not gonna make it.”, or something similar to these statements, which would send an instant chill down your spine, because they absolutely knew that they were going to die, and soon.

One of my favorite movies ever that holds a special place in my heart as it was the first movie I saw in theaters after my graduation from the U.S. Navy's Basic Training in June of '96. I never tire of watching this movie. Great Sci-Fi and action with a bit of disaster movie thrown into the mix, along with some very human and emotional moments. If you are interested in more movies in the disaster genre, I recommend 1974's The Towering Inferno, my favorite disaster movie ever. For a movie that will be turning fifty this year, the effects created to show the building at different stages of the fire are still very impressive, even this day of CGI.

easily one of the greatest sci fi movies in cinematic history but now that im older i cant help but wonder how these super advanced aliens hadn't developed the most impenetrable firewall conceivable. 12 month subscription to nortans would have solved the aliens weak spot.

The tactical nuke they set off inside the mothership (while its systems were largely disabled) probably triggered their power production systems to go boom. The nuke isn't that powerful...but whatever power plant and star-drive system can get them across interstellar space...almost certainly IS that powerful. And I doubt it would respond well to having anything explode next to it...especially not the equivalent of a few dozen kilotons of TNT.
@DarthDragon0074 ай бұрын
A few dozen kilotons? Even during the cold war we had nukes that could be carried under a jet that were in the hundreds of kilotons. That nuke was probably a couple hundred kilotons minimum.

1. Hiller is a USMC Captain he knows his holiday off is over. That's why he didn't even have to wait to be called in. Jasmine should know that. 2. In the theater I was in the people in there actually stood up and cheered when the White House and the Capitol Building blew up. 3. In my top 10 reasons out of thousands to NOT live in a Metropolis. Getting the hell out. 4. Lisa Jakub/Alicia is FINE!😍😋 5. Brent Spiner/Dr. Okum played Data in Star Trek TNG. It's nice to see him with emotions. 6. Goof: Air Force One is kept at Andrews, not behind the White House. 7. Hiller FAIL parashoot jump.🙄😲

1. Indeed. US Navy here & if there's an emergency. Every sailor reports back to the ship. & It was well known. Don't make them call you. & If they have to drive over & pick you up because 'you're on shore leave' & you think you don't have to go back. That, you will deeply regret.
@boomeister24 ай бұрын
@williamjones6031 Of course, Air Force One isn't kept behind the White House. They all got in Marine One at the White House. Judd Hirch says, "This is nice" as they take their seats and you can hear the chopper blades noise. Then a bit later it shows them in Air Force One taking off down a runway just ahead of the inferno. No one thought that Air Force One took off from behind the White House 😆
