Hey now Big Steve, loved the story and all the shout outs. When you were talking about Gary Gutierrez you left out one of his best contributions to the boys. His eight plus minute animation at the beginning of "The Grateful Dead Movie". Having seen the "Touch" video too many times to count, I truly enjoy Gary's work, he seems very in tune with the band. Thanks for the great memories.

My sister was living in LA at the time and went up for that show with a bunch of friends. A few years later she moved to Eugene Oregon and ended up hanging out with Trixie Garcia as they were both into indy rock and more punk music. It was a nice music scene all along the west coast. Thanks Steve.

Wow. It's cool to finally put the face to the voice I always hear on SiriusXM, Big Steve. I listen to your show all the time. The TOG video is what got me into the Grateful Dead. I was still just a little kid then, around 7-8 years old, and was really into skulls and skeletons at the time it came out. I loved the video, but loved the song even more. I've been on the bus ever since.

To answer the question of who I would want on a desert island with me would be you Steve. You and a stack of old Maxell first generations ..alright, couple chics too lol, but seriously, these stories are so priceless, such a slice of important yet oblique history and out of the common eye. Magic you lived.

We were at that show. Ry Cooder and his great band were amazing. Laguna Seca is a barren, scrub grass, hilly area, a racetrack, nothing like the beautiful Monterey coast; hot in the day, cold at night that time of year. Not everyone stayed or knew about the video.

I really appreciate you sharing your experience with us through all the great stories. I have a “taper” friend who was at that run, and was one of the people in the audience for the video (I don’t know if he is shown, but he used to love telling us younger heads that story in the early 90’s)

That night was a trip. I was right in front of Phil as the good lord intended & was our custom. The shows were smoking too, ended up at a table next to Garcia backstage first nite as he explained to this kid that “instructions are chicken shit!!”. Can hear him now still 💚🙏🏼💪🏼

While we were in the park up in Berkeley, our friend Mike went down to the show and was there for the video. He said it was a great night party for the fans. We even knew a few faces in the vid crowd. Good days then, and some of the ones between...

Thank you for that account. As I was born sometime in the year of '81 with two older siblings (one of whom introduced to me to the Dead, natch), the 'Touch of Grey' video was absolutely imprinted on my young mind above and beyond most other videos. It was a revelation even to a 6-7 year old mind--somehow you knew this one is different from the rest. The quintessence of the Grateful Dead has always seemed to be that primordial essence linking all of us organic matter on our here planet sensed at any age...a puddled mess of flesh with a living skeleton inside us all indeed, Steve.

During the Scarlet>Touch of Grey 2nd Set opener 10/28/85, right when they switch to WE will survive, they unfurled the Twenty Years So Far, Minuteman banner behind the band. It rolled down from the ceiling. Listen to it, you'll hear the moment I became a Deadhead.

Checkin' in to let you know how historically important your stories are to us. The 82 US Festival was epic. That was the first time I ever saw bleachers for the hoards of backstagers. Bill did throw a few out. For five years, I was Stephen Stills' Steve Parish. Our mutual friend list is dwindling fast. I did a few years at Alembic so your stories reminded me how dedicated to fun Rick Turner and Sam Field were. Croz, not so much. Thanks for posting. Warmest regards..Dave Rao

Thanks again, Steve. Laguna Seca Daze were the best. Awesome Venue. I liked the Bob Dylan story as well. There's a lot of stories like that floating around where he just seems to either appear out of nowhere or leave without anyone seeing him leave the room he had just been in. There's a guy on You Tube that has about 2 hours worth of just Dylan stories that are worth a peek. Otis Gibbs I believe the name of the cat is. Cheers and thank you!

That video n song brought in so many new fans. Even too this day. When I’m running sound I get so many requests from people to try and have our local band play it….alas it’s is a rarity. If you’re ever in Asheville then you have to check out Jerry’s Dead we do it up right. Hope to have our stage rebuilt soon we were wrecked in the Wake of the Flood from Helene but plan to be back better than ever soon!!

Hi Steve, i checked for a video yesterday and woke up with a new one this morning. I lived at Big Sur and have lived in NSW, where I used to bump into Sam Cutler every now and then. Hey, can you do a video on the closing of Winterland please? I have so many questions. The Blues Brothers' performance and audience were electric. The GD played over 4 hours from midnight on. The Audience got breakfast at Sunrise. What was going on backstage? How did you decide on the Blues Brothers? I imagine there is Bill Graham anecdote here. Why was Winterland so relevant? Steve Cropper said JB got dosed after their set😂. And so on..

Who maybe hadnt been properly greased in a longtime..it was kinda quiet in the greater camp this was in the flats behind the stage part of the grass parkin lot trip....anyways you can her a few peeps walkin thru and voices were down and this guy would wait for somebody to come walking by and he'd jump out it from behind a car or tent it sounded like! Yelling Freeze!!! The people were seriously startled totally freaked heartattack style!!..then the guy would laugh and laugh kneeslappin the whole trip!!... it was somthing else!...let us know😂🎉......
