Fred seriously underplayed how risky it was going from the start to the highway, Darien Police are no joke, the speed limit is 25, and before the hairpin turn to get on going southbound you have two 90 degree turns in opposite directions within 50 yards

So true, it was interesting and exciting to say the least!!

I'm glad you clarified that. I was originally trying to figure out what route they were leaving the Red Bull Garage from. Hairpin onto the interstate made no sense for that. But from Goodwives that makes sense.

We tried to figure a way to do this for years, sadly route 66 is in a pretty bad way in some places, and under the new highway in others.
@jasonrackawack93694 жыл бұрын
Yeah, watch "Two Lane Blacktop", dont know how much was on 66 but it was supposed to be cross country.
@Peelster1 Жыл бұрын
I know you probably mean along Route 66, but if the historic route was still complete, fastest route from the start to the end would be almost using no part of Route 66 at all. It is also the same route that cannonballers take when using the northern route up until you have to split off from going to Santa Monica vs. Redondo Beach. It is kind of cool that the interstate system version of route 66 is sometimes used when cannonballing.

Several years ago I lived in Seattle and needed to go to a class/seminar in Memphis. I was so busy and distracted that I forgot to arrange my plain flight, car rental and hotel for the event. Finally I find its Friday night and I need to be in Memphis on Monday. My secretary is like "maybe I should arrange for you to make the next one in two months but I had to have this class to keep our franchise license for the business. So I leave at 11pm Friday. I had a highly modified Volvo V40 wagon. ECU has been chipped, tuned, custom turbo, exhaust, sway bars, tower connectors front and rear, dropped springs, custom undercarriage cover and more to make it fast power wise and aerodynamic. Built for top end speed but with great gas milage. This car could cruise at 130mph at only 3k rpm with plenty of room to pull faster and still just sip gas. I found myself crusing at over 130mph most of the way some how not seeing a cop but once. At like 5am in the middle of nowhere a cop pulls up beside me at 110mph and just to show me I was nothing he pulls away from me and leaves me behind for some reason. I pulled into my hometown of Hopkinsville KY at around 11pm Saturday. I had made it a bit more than half way across the country in about 12 hours. Needless to say I made it to Memphis with time to spare doing the same thing going back to Seattle a week later.

That stallion is just so... fuckin... NASTY. It's 100% my style too because, for some ungodly reason, my favorite era of car design is pretty much everyone else's most hated: The 1980s. I can't explain why, but I love all those hard edges on cars that still have that sleek look. The FC RX-7, S12 Silvia, A60/70 Supra, and this car are good examples of just that.
