Thermal optics are great on sniper and DMRs for long-range shooting. They will remove almost all penalties from bad weather, night and cover at 3+ AIm level, which you will be using as a sharpshooter. Combine this with a heavy stock and bipod for added accuracy. Silencer is optional. Reflex scopes should be combined with a folding/skeleton stock for improving your Overwatch. Just these two modifications are enough to make any merc using this weapon an Overwatch menace, even if they do not have the extra perks. A Dragunov SVD is particularly good in this role, as it can equip a bipod as well. For magazines you are better off simply with extended capacity, even at the cost of extra AP for reload. You aim to finish most firefights in 3-4 turns. Even if you use heavily burst weapons you should still have more than enough ammo left. The quick prism scope is a must on assault rifles. It will allow you to do more attacks per turn if you first shoot and then move or continue attacking. It is especially good on assault rifles that can equip a bipod - you drop down to prone status (extra malus for the enemy shooting at you) and stay in place. Now on your next turn your first shot counts as 3 Aim levels + 50% accuracy from the bipod. The AKs and FAMAS are the most common rifles that can equip a bipod. The FN-FAL is great here, as it can equip a bipod and a grenade launcher at the same time. Most weapons have at least two good configurations, the assault rifles even more. The attachment system actually gives the game a lot of depth.

I have found that thermal works best for me both in sniper rifles and in assault rifles, it neglects most accuracy negatives and makes shots far more likely to hit in bad weather conditions. And seeing as I rarely choose to maintain the same position before shooting, it is far more useful to me than the quick prism scope. But obviously this heavily depends on your playstyle.

@@paulomarreiros00 FAMAS with a quick prism scope can allow you two aimed bursts per turn (with a bipod) or possibly three single aimed shots. While not the most powerful weapon for damage, it is really good for bad shooters and midrange engagements. Give it a Red dot (Marked status - next attack is a critical hit) and a vertical grip and you will be critting a lot of enemies each turn. You can even use your quick firing FAMAS just to place the Marked status on multiple enemies and then hit them with someone with a more damaging weapon.

I love my overwatch Dragunov on Raven. It‘s crazy how many kills she can nail per turn because the Marked status she inflicts will apply to her own shots as well. When she goes “Don‘t worry Ron, I‘ve got you covered“ it always brings a smile to my face.

@@8wayz2shine That is actually brilliant, I'm going to try to do this with Livewire and see how it goes.

Nice video, but one thing is wrong. Not all stockupgades will hinder you- the heavy stock has no downside, but its not alway active but its costly on most weapons. Its nice in combination with fast prism scope... cause it will give you 3 aims for free

Ha, thanks! Like I said, there's so many different upgrades in this game, I was pretty sure that some mistake/oversight had to happen. There's no Wikipedia for JA3 available, so I appreciate you guys helping out with the deets =)

Are the “illuminate the enemy and the wielder” mods self-illumination always active, active automatically when turn-based combat starts, toggleable, or do they only activate when you’re aiming? Also does it effect your inability to remain hidden in daylight as well? Do they illuminate the enemy for your whole squad or just the merc shooting? I’d hope your mercs are smart enough to only use them at night and when necessary. Also, The tooltips could really do with another pass, they really don’t surface a lot of mechanical interactions beyond basic ones, and sometimes even those leave stuff out. I understand not wanting to show hit % but some stuff is just absent. They need more keywords as well. I have a feeling they are only programmed to be able to show 4 max due to screen real estate, but it’d be nice if you could middle click to lock the root tooltip and then hover the keywords to view missing ones or get more details.

Nice video, thank you. Would be great to see what build (guns, attachments and perks) you recommend for stealth shooting. Even a demonstration how does it work in action. Thanks. 😊

Thanks for explaining. Can optics and weapon lamps be upgraded later, or do you have to build a new weapon? To be fair the in-game mod system is something I think the game developers got completely wrong. Attachments that are essentially detachable would have been better made detachable. I understand that you can build improvised silencers and improvised bipods, adapt wooden stocks and shorten barrels, but I don't understand that you can manufacture high-precision optics, gun lamps and other attachments yourself. These parts would have been better brought into play as finds, loot or via traders. I'm hoping for a future mod that changes that.

As far as I know with a decent mechanics skill you will always get the parts (Lenses/Pipes/Chips) back when you scrap the original gun. And currently the system "overwrites" the old modification if you apply a new one. I agree it would be really cool if some of these were detachable and re-mountable (especially scopes pop in my mind first) but I also understand why the devs streamlined the system like that. Parts aren't that hard to come by (depending on game difficulty ofc) and with some savescumming you can easily mount up the same modification on the next gun. But I really would also install a mod which makes this system more realistic. It just feels very abstract to not be able to strap that UV-Dot Marker on the next gun after you don't want it anymore on the old one.

Yes, that is one thing I miss from Jagged Alliance 2. Attachments such as suppressors/grenade launchers/scopes were all actual items to be found in the world

Can anyone tell me the mod he's using to organize the parts into the squad supplies? It annoys me that i have to waste slots in a mercs inventory for them

Does autofire talent work within burst/ autofire; or say subsequent single shots only? I know you said former in the vid, but can you confirm?¿

This attachment crafting system sucks. It's not like you would sit around in Africa and tinker with some old chips, lenses and srap metal to build a holo sight. I really don't get why they didn't use the system from JA2 where you just buy a f*ching attachment and have it mounted by a mechanically inclined Merc.

Yup, agree here. I see what they tried to do there, but it clearly would be way more fun to earn money and buy stuff rather than this gimmicky crafting system.
