I hated this when it came out in the 90s, i just heard it everywhere and didn't listen beyond the chorus... But i realised later, its so incredibly beautiful. Just astounding. Im very late to the party, but better late than never... 🙂

I've found at all of the James gigs I've been to and will for as long as I can you are on point with that. Their songs and music brings out feelings within you that not many bands can. They have a cult like following and a broad range of appeal at the same time. The music evokes memories good ,and bad. And that's the sign of a band that will go down in history. One of the best Manchester bands.

Probably the best lyrics I've ever heard in a song, "if I hadn't seen such riches I could live with being poor" is incredibly deep.

Have told my kids I want this song whatever version played at my funeral As a teenager of late 80' and a young man in the 90's I don't think we realised what a classic this would become! Im a terrible singer and have never done Karaoke until recently. My son said when I sung this I got everyone up singing and a standing ovation at the pub, was about 3/4 pished at that point 😂 Son said that was awesome Da, I replied Wasnt me son , was just a great song with great lyrics and a true classic! Don't you just love Dutch courage 😉

I’m in a really similar boat. 44 and this song has seen me through so much. Just discovered this orchestral version and wow. It’s going on my playlist for when I start my next round of infusions. But I’ll probably listen to it a dozen times before then. I hope you got to ring that bell and are all clear now!

I sing myself to sleep A song from the darkest hour Secrets I can't keep In sight of the day Swing from high to deep Extremes of sweet and sour Hope that God exists I hope, I pray Drawn by the undertow My life is out of control I believe this wave will bear my weight So let it flow Oh sit down (sit down) Oh sit down (sit down, sit down) Oh sit down (sit down) Sit down next to me Sit down, down (sit down, sit down) Down, down, down (sit down, sit down) In sympathy Now I'm relieved to hear That you've been to some far out places It's hard to carry on When you feel all alone Now I've swung back down again And it's worse than it was before If I hadn't seen such riches I could live with being poor Oh sit down (sit down) Oh sit down (sit down, sit down) Oh sit down (sit down) Sit down next to me Sit down, down (sit down, sit down) Down, down, down (sit down, sit down) In sympathy Those who feel the breath of sadness Sit down next to me Those who find they're touched by madness Sit down next to me Those who find themselves ridiculous Sit down next to me In love, in fear, in hate, in tears In love, in fear, in hate, in tears In love, in fear, in hate, in tears In love, in fear, in hate Down Down Oh sit down (sit down) Oh sit down (sit down, sit down) Oh sit down (sit down) Sit down next to me Sit down, down (sit down, sit down) Down, down, down (sit down, sit down) In sympathy Oh sit down (sit down) Oh sit down (sit down, sit down) Oh sit down (sit down) Sit down next to me Sit down, down (sit down, sit down) Down, down, down (sit down, sit down) In sympathy Down

Peace and love from Bradford. What a great version of Sit Down with the strings section!!!

The only song I've ever found comfort in. The lyrics are incredibly apt & tie in perfectly with the feelings I've collected from the more challenging chapters of my life. The song feels like my song - it perfectly personifies everything I've endured & enjoyed throughout my life & yes, a tear rolls down my cheek everytime I listen.

Ive listened to this masterpiece every week since I first heard it in 1991. I was in my car when it came on, went into my record shop and there was the cd single which I still have. Proudly own every album and almost every single. Living in Adelaide it took until 2018 to finally see them live. It was surreal. Cant wait fo the new album 4th June 2021.

Pure class. Music that means something, music that reaches into your soul and grabs it, lyrics that tug at your heartstrings stretching them to breaking point, that stir memories you want to remember but also forget.. not just commercial bullshit that all sounds the same as if you've heard it a million times after listening to it once - and then forgetting it right after.
