Next makelele the team that gets him will make history in the future. That CDM is such a pivotal part and a player like this with versatility as a RB is very hard to come by and he is English so no matter the cost must pull the trigger. 'Jack of All Trades, Master of None' comes to mind about Archie Gray. I'm uncertain about a player who's 18 and we don't know his favoured position and will we even play him! Why not put that money on a top signing and bring a youth player through our academy!?

If Spurs buy 18 year olds that stay with them for 3 years, they become club trained homegrown players. As much as we all want to see the academy boys coming through, it's clear as day that the quality just hasn't been there. We haven't had a truly successful academy product come through since Harry Kane. Hopefully, we will see some of this new generation coming through, but given our track record, it is extremely logical to supplement our internal talent with some external punts like Bergvall and Gray.

Sess, Clarke, Spence etc seen this movie b4 (saying they will rip it up at spurs after doing well championship) . Loaned out then sold for tiny amount few years later. One for the future that never arrives. Not closing gap at all with top 3 with signing like this. If was signing ontop of 3 to 4 top quality proven players like eze then fine. But with small budget as usual and 30 mil plus on 18 year old. Dont cry when next season goes nowhere. Sick of this one for the future nonsense. By time a grey develops, van der ven, romero, udogie will be gone to clubs who actually compete. Then the cycle starts again. New project one for the future. Saava got it spot on in this. This does not close the gap.

We need to both plan for now and the future. The reason we have an excess of foreign players and a lack of club trained players is precisely because they focused too much on the now and made a lot of mistakes in the market. There needs to be a balance. As long as Spurs bring in both ready-made players and prospects, they will be fine. Imagine if we applied this logic to Sarr and Udogie and we never took the chance on them. You win some and you lose some, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try.

I know how Spurs do business, and 40mil+ on a youngster with 1 year of experience just means less money for the other positions we need to bolster. I would say new forwards or a starting DM is way more important than a back-up right back/ midfielder. 🤷

@@kmhong8703 why care about the value? If Spurs can bring the cash price down closer to 20m by shifting unwanted players, that is really good business. If this is the only deal done then the window would be tragic, but it doesn't make sense to be doom and gloom while there are still two months to get business done. Ange has been pretty crystal clear that he has the final say on players coming in, so it's pretty safe to assume that if Spurs are making a push to hijack this deal, Archie Gray is one of the players Ange wants.

@@DjNaste Why care about the value? It's 40mil+ going elsewhere. We don't have some infinite budget and history shows that clearly, ofc it won't be the "only deal done". Leeds are also in the championship, there are plenty of clubs in-between that would be interested in these players, we don't need a "2 bird 1 stone" scenario at all. Rather have that 40mil+ go fund an actual starting quality striker or winger first. What Ange thinks has little bearing on how I feel about the club business when we sign players like Veliz and Solomon who we won't see next season. I'll form my opinion on transfers case by case. Gray is fine but the price is absurd and the order of priority is all wrong for what I feel we actually need to compete with the clubs up there.
