I own a 2002 Honda Shadow Spirit 750. About 2 weeks ago I laid her down going about 35 (won't go into details) and since I live in Massachusetts, I have to wear a helmet. I never really thought one way or another about it and far be it for me to tell someone else what they should do, but I am glad I was wearing it. All the scars on that helmet would have been on my head and I might have even gotten a concussion or worse without it. Thanks for letting me give my input. Keep those knees in the breeze.

Thank you for watching and for your comment! Sorry to hear you went down! Hope you are recovering well, and are able to get back out there soon! The way you describe it, it does sound good that you were wearing a helmet!

I've never rode without a full-face helmet. First it's the law in alabama to have a helmet. Second is that I don't want my head exposed to any unnecessary dangers. Also, I would not prefer to be smacked in the face constantly with bugs! I always wear jeans at least too. Most of the time I wear a riding jacket as well. I have a winter and a summer jacket. I slid across the road face first last year and glad I had all the gear on. It was at a slow speed thankfully and only a couple scrapes on my leg and my faceshield. Finally, I don't push my limits too often because I have two daughters as well and want to make sure I make it back home the same way I left. Great topic this week!

I wear full gear on roads- helmet, gloves, riding jacket with protection, riding pants with protection, riding boots. Yes I sweat when it's hot, but if I fall, protection is there.. Off road on the dual-sport, always helmet and gloves, but will wear military fatigues, and hiking boots. You asked were we are answering from... NJ where it might hit 100 in summer and I sweat like a beast with all the protective gear, but in fall/winter it helps.

Thank you for watching and for your comment! It is good to practice all the gear, all the time. Be as safe as you can be. Yeah, wearing the gear definitely can be hot, and one has to remember to stay hydrated while out on the road. The gear definitely helps in the cooler months. I change over to my leather jacket when temps are under 50. Helps cut that windchill down.

The only time I haven't worn my helmet was in my circle driveway. I typically wear my modular full face unless I know I'm going to ride around the Black Hills then I wear a half helmet with goggles . I wear a mesh HD jacket most of the time with my vest on. I have rode without my jacket on but it was on 2 lane back roads. I just found a leather vest that is perforated to let more air in and stay cooler. I had a friend in FL want me to test ride his Harley and I wouldn't because I didn't have my a helmet. But that's just me. Great Video !!!!

Glad you liked the video! Thanks for sharing with all of us how you do things! I would probably be the same way as you if offered a test ride. Especially in an area that is crazy traffic. I think my next vest will be perforated. I was going to try to get one of those Dixxon ones, but they sold out too fast. 😆

I have a full face helmet and honestly don’t feel comfortable without it. I tried to ride without gear(gloves, helmet, boots minimum) and I was terrified. Rose 2 mins and went right back home. It’s up to your comfort level. Also I’ve been down once on the street and speak to gear making a difference. Keep the shiny side up guys.

wow, when i saw the topic for your video, i thought man he is stepping into the ring for this one! this seems to always be a contentious topic, but you handled it well! i will admit, there was a time when i got a little upset about seeing riders w/o helmets. I don't get upset anymore, of course it is a choice we all have to make. The discussion always seems to revolve around the death rate, but the other gorilla in the room is brain injuries! I saw a video on Revzilla's website sometime recently, and quoting studies, it was inconclusive about an increase in deaths. However, it was clear that brain injuries increased about 30%. oh gees, this is a long post, but one more point - my wife is an RN and her facility where she works takes care of people with permanent brain injuries. Some of the residents are there b/c of motorcyle accidents.

Thanks for watching and commenting! The tail end of your comment is similar to another from the medical field. It’s always nice to hear other perspectives and input. I really value and appreciate your comment. Those are all excellent talking points! It is easy for me to talk about, just because I understand both sides, and I know it’s a personal decision in those states that allow the rider to choose.

@Easymoney1285 ай бұрын
That’s a great question. I give it a 6 out of 10. A few things it’s a little loud but bearable. Venting could be a bit more. Shield doesn’t lock open meaning it slams shut at highway speed.

I definitely wear a helmet. One reason is my grandmother back in the 60s war helmet and when a woman signal right and turned left in front of her, she went over the hood and bounced three times on her head and the helmet she was OK. The other reason is because I was a nurses aid and I’ve taken care of people with traumatic brain injuries in long-term care facilities, I’ve seen the family cry bedside. I’ve had to feed them because they can’t feed themselves. I’ve seen people with partial skulls and I’ve seen people become paralyzed from head injuries. I saw guys jaw ripped off once. These things are pretty common when you don’t wear a helmet, a helmet might not save your life, but not wearing one though it may kill you, the worst thing to happen which often happens is you become crippled, paralyzed or brain damaged and then have to live the rest of your life in a care home being fed and changed. And this isn’t just a fantasy or just one or two people accidents are common. Everybody goes down once at least in their lifechances you’ll survive that much greater if you’re wearing a helmet. I mean if you die, there’s nothing you can do about it doesn’t matter you’re gone, but if you live with a brain injury, it’s torture for you and your family and I think just the risk of that is better just to wear the stupid helmet.

Is there any companies that do custom motorcycle helmet design ? that actually function not only there for looks ? Cause i would totally rock a space marine helmet. Space marine from the Warhammer franchise not the Halo master chief kind of space marine
@TWOWHEELD5 ай бұрын
I’m not sure! I would almost think there is someone out there doing some custom work at the very least! Like adding it to an already functional helmet. Might have to google search that one! If you ever find something, come back and let us know!

Wear a helmet. There are more variables out of your control than ones you can. In 1995 a close family friend was riding his Harley to work one morning. He was struck from behind while sitting at a red light. According to witnesses, he immediately got up and attempted to pick up the bike. Within one to two minutes he was down and unconscious, and never came back. He sustained a fatal head injury. All these years later I still think about him every time I get on my bike to go out. Ride safe.
@TWOWHEELD2 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing your story. I’m sorry to hear about your friend you lost years ago. Thats all it can take sometimes, just your head hitting the ground, the bike, or the vehicle involved. Could even be from a whiplash type thing where it tears something along the spinal cord and a stroke happens. It’s not always the high speed moving that gets a person. It’s these cases. Thank you for sharing with everyone.
