Got memories of this place too. It was my very first encounter with "abroad". I was a 19yo in a REME unit in the Territorial Army. It was my first "annual camp" and our unit were guests of a REME based there and was in 1965.

I was in Detmold from 1966 - 1968. Anybody remember "Momma's" guesthouse where the cops used to turn up every night ready for the regular punch-ups?

I was there from 67 to 70 serving with the RMP. Spent most of my 'off time' with 3 RHA Bombardiers and 200 Signals Mess. And occasionally with the Royals Cpls Mess.

this is 3 rd Royal Tank Regiment - third batalion RTR not Third RTR. In British Army Royal Tank Regiment is only one. This unit had over 20 batalions in Second WW. Now have two batalions.

Wrong. This is 3rd RTR No "battalion" at all.
@hwz14193 жыл бұрын
@@iceneweb RTR is only one. In 1939 had 8 regular batalions (1-8) and 12 terytorial batalions (40-51). In war forming four new regular batalions (9-12) After war this number batalions was reduced . After 1992 RTR had only two batalions (1-2). Now this is regiment with only one batalion. (1 st RTR). Regiments are only cavalry . Colonel in chef this regiment since 1952 is HM The Queen.
