What came first the chicken or the egg? the game fucked up as soon as Jordan brand began artificial inflation. Jordan brand created this monster by limiting production of there sneakers to artificially create scarcity and high demand for there sneakers... It's the same game that drives the value of diamonds, which are not at all a rare stone... De Beers has a global monopoly on diamond mining which allows them to manipulate the market value through the use of artificial inflation. The resale market of sneakers was essentially spawned on the heels of deadstock OG sneakers and highly limited/exclusive sneakers like the undefeated 4s selling for absurd amounts of money... or at least being listed at such ridiculous prices, that it seeded the thought in millions of minds that sneakers are an investment and if you cop the right pairs you could strike gold. I mean, you can price anything at any monetary value you want, whether or not it sells is another story... At the end of the day scarcity drives the market value, when something is highly limited and exclusive than its perceived as extra valuable and those with money to burn will purchase said product for the perceived status symbol it provides them. Basically all i'm saying is between wealthy buyers willing to pay the absurd resale prices and Jordan Brand making extremely limited friends and family sneakers, as well as creating scarcity through there regular production lines... It was only a matter of time before everything spiraled out of control. We all hate the idea of resellers and it's easy to push blame on the resellers and resale buyers for creating this entire mess, but at the end of the day, its Jordan Brand that has created the system and fed the fire which birthed the sneaker resale market into what it is today.

I'm from Brazil, and here in Brazil the pairs sold by nike are of a lower quality than pairs from other places. The resale here is also insane, any model is very expensive, because our currency is devalued. That is, if Nike doesn't care about selling quality pairs, why should people care about buying original pairs? Most of the time the UA pair and the original pair are made in the same country, use the same materials and the same cheap labor, the difference is that the "original" pair is resold for much more expensive, when in fact it cost the same cents to be manufactured, as well as the fake pair ...

This is how it was explained to me.. For every shoe, Nike puts out contracts to different factories that shows the design of the shoe and what they want when it's created. Whichever factory makes the best product based on the specs Nike gave them, they win the contract and they produce the shoe. However, remember there's multiple factories that were handed out those contracts on the specs. They're supposed to "throw them away" and not put the shoe into production, but some factories don't do that. They make almost identical reps and sell them because they have the original design specs. 👌🏾

There’s no way they’re dumb enough to give the drawings and specs for a new shoe to multiple factories and just hope they toss them when they don’t get the contract. This is China where they are master imitators. They just buy the real shoe and source the closest material they can to make the shoes on their own. When it’s a new product, they have to reverse engineer it but with Jordan’s that have been around for years, they already have the plans and if they don’t, they’re for sale somewhere. Nike just isn’t giving them away willingly.

It won’t. They tried that and it backfired. If shoes are too easy to cop hypebeasts will no longer have hype on the product. The shoes will be left sitting. Look at the Nike release calendar. Sneaker after sneaker after sneaker. And due to the hype the J’s and dunks all sell out instantly. Nike would prefer that than to meet demand on each release. What I do hope is that they look at the recent yeezy bred rerelease. The production was HUGE, 500K pairs. Global sell out. I can’t believe where the sneaker game has gone. I remember spending the summer in Cali with my grandmother (I’m from NY) and she took me to JC Penny and bought me me the entire “Bred 1” set. This was in ‘86, I was 7yrs old. I got the nylon pants, the shorts and the red tee that had the old Jordan logo (basketball with wings). I say all of that to make an important point. My mother bought me the Jordan 2’s when they released. I HAD THEM BEFORE MY GRANDMOTHER GOT ME THE BRED 1s!!!! So back then, you were STILL able to get your hands on a pair of Jays for RETAIL months later!!!!! I wasn’t a big basketball fan yet, so I really didn’t understand why everyone was so impressed with my kicks. I started to watch basketball around the time the 5’s were released. But again, it still amazes me that we’ve gotten to the point that it is damn near impossible to simply buy a sneaker you like. 🚨 I heard that Jordan and Nike go to factories order a batch of shoes and if they don’t like them they cancel the order but it’s still a batch that has been made so the people at the factory just sell the shoe and if people keep asking they keep making the same shoe so it isn’t really a fake it’s just a pair that hasn’t been authorized by Nike or Jordan the shoes come from the same factory but are different batches and they have differences because the so called “fake” ones are the ones that Nike or Jordan didn’t like so they change it up until they like the way it looks and then decide if it’s something that they want to release🚨

Simple economic principle at play called "Willingness to Pay" -- companies and resellers benefit (profit) the most when they can sell us their products/goods as close to this price as possible. This would maximize their bottom line. If they could, they would target each of our individual "willingness to pay" prices for every product and only sell to those who have the highest willingness to pay -- In a way, resellers play this role in the secondary market. But at the end of the day, people who aren't willing to pay can hold off, look for alternatives, or as Chris highlighted, buy replicas for hundreds less. Great video highlighting a valid concern. The average consumer just wants a pair to wear. So if the UA sellers are making shoes at 1:1 quality, why would anyone pay resale for any reason other than their own assurance that they bought "authentic"? It's silly.

With a little patience you can always find a good price especially on the less hyped stuff.

That’s why I’m doing nonikeshoes this month as my protest on Nike after I couldn’t get grinches like ur right if they had a million pairs they would still make money it’s frustrating

I feel you on this before the pandemic I never took a L on any Jordan. After the Flints broke my heart my bday weekend I learned my lesson. Even being a rewards member at Footlocker I cant get anything. Now Im starting to not waste my time and energy l just go to Stockx for the time being

There wouldn't be resellers and reps if companies made enough pairs for everyone
