Same here! When I was a kid in 2007/2008, our TV in the kitchen had sub channels I guess you could call it (68.2 was Qubo, 30 something. 5 was some creepy Christian channel, etc). Well, if I remember right, 5.2 was just a weather update channel for at least the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas. My dad would put it on on the weekends early in the morning. While it was on, it was more so to just listen to smooth jazz ( and I guess get weather updates, lol). But I remember one particular track that always played and it had these nice keyboard sounds that would transition into this sick fucking baseline! It’s the one track I remember from the channel because it’ll just randomly start playing in my head. I would even ask my dad what music that is and he would just tell me that it’s more modern smooth jazz. Omg, I LOVED it

For anyone wondering: This weather report took place in New Castle County, Delaware on January 19, 1994. Some history: I looked up any year Jan 19 fell on a Wednesday (according to the date stamp on the upper right), and there were only 2 possible options given the fidelity and graphic design of TWC at the time: 1993, and 2000. Weather Channel was formed May 2, 1982. So it couldn't be any earlier than that. One commenter suggested 1983. Weather channel's broadcasting at the time did not have Local on the 8's then. Another suggested 2005. Weather Channel underwent a graphic design overhaul for all its packages including Local on the 8's in 2002, including non-teletype fonts and new color schemes. Looking at the weather reports on Weather Underground for both those dates: 2000, the high was near 35, and there were several snow showers that day. Thus, it had to be 1994.

This reminds me of one of my earliest memories. Summer of 1988. I was 4 years old. We were on vacation, visiting my aunt in Atlanta. It was a rainy night as we zoomed down a highway that seemed to cut through the heart of the city. A "Quiet Storm" station was playing late 80's Smooth Jazz and R'n'B over the radio of our Maroon Chrysler LeBaron. I remember looking up in awe of the massive, soaring skyscrapers. The rain drops on the windows and the wet road reflected the lights of the city, combining into a glorious neon impressionist painting. All was right with the world, and 35 years later I can recall the magic of this moment just like it was yesterday...

I've been enjoying this mix for a long time, and I just realized there's a part where it says "100% Colombian Coffee" and it's funny because the last place where I'd think of my country is in a vaporwave mix hahahaha I love it.

this is such a niche 'genre', but i find it very comforting. i can remember sitting in the living room floor with a slice of toast (it had strawberry cream cheese, normally), watching the weather channel with my mom while my older sisters were at school in the morning. i miss those days.

Wow. I just got a deep, lost, and obscure 90s flashback as a teenager. The Weather Channel was so common on cable you didn't even think about it. The "Local Forecast" graphic hit me hardest.

The Weather Channel was ASMR BEFORE that was an actual thing ! With the nice soothing sound of Jazz music and piano playing while having the blow dryer on my head before heading out for the night on a Friday night going out to actual bars and not being worried about any possibilities of mass shootings !😁👍

Our local cable provider first added TWC around 87 or 88. I was hooked immediately and will forever miss this iteration. I'd love to see them dump their current format of endless reality TV shows and wizbang animations and go back to the beautiful days of lo-fi graphics and smooth jazz.

This shit actually hits so hard... Remember when it used to snow in Massachusetts? Or sitting on the couch before bed waiting from the call of snow? So much nostalgia here . Man this is actually more emotional than I'd like to admit.

I liked that they used to play Charlie Brown jingles during Christmas. It helped ease the pain of seeing a Buffalo, NY forecast in winter lol.

This is so nostalgic, bc I remember hearing this channel when on vacation with my family and my parents needed to hear the weather for the day. The music was great to listen to, as much as child me wanted to watch cartoon network. Soothing, but always kinda sad because it also often meant being a hotel room and travelling home, signaling the end of vacation and adventure to new places, and the soft, smooth jazz helped with that melancholy feeling.

This channel just lets you turn your brain off. No news about whats wrong with the world, no thinking about taxes, budget, mortgage at that moment. Just a moment of peace and chill music.

One day I happened to stumble across this, showed my pops and told him I use this for studying because it makes me calm and more focused. He said "Huh... Must be a subconscious thing, I used to have this playing all the time when you were young living in IL." Where I was born. Haven't been in that state since I was 5.

This is aesthetic in its purest form. The smooth lo-fi jams and local weather from an unknown time that has presumably been long since passed. It's an aesthetic that I absolutely adore, and its genuine time capsule. Bravo.

This is great. Takes me back to my college years working at a Resort in Michigan. We had a small TV in the Concierge area that always had the weather channel on. It was an older model 80's TV and had hazy clarity, yet for some reason, even then, it was soothing to watch. Just weather and local on the 8's. Oh, the good old days when MTV played music videos and the Weather channel gave the weather without any of the fluff. If you know the year you recorded this please post. Thank you and great mix.

when I was young around 5-8 my dad would watch the weather/news/channel menu before leaving for work and before going to school I would sit in front of the tv and watch the weather/news too because I wasn't taught how to change the channel. My dad didn't realize until almost 11 years later when I told him I remember watching the weather/news because that's what he left on after going to work and he asked why I never changed it. Looking back it was really funny that I just never asked how to change the channel, but I was always super excited about watching the "grown up shows" like my dad, even if it was just the weather. One day I did find out by watching him change the channel and I started watching cartoons in the morning instead but I really liked watching the weather before school, even though I could never talk to my friends about the morning cartoons. I at least knew the weather for the day/week XD

My gramps always put the weather channel on when it was time for us to go to sleep. The music always put me in a soft state, like everything would be ok, even at night in the dark of the world, I had him snoring and the funky jazz to let me know I wasnt alone and had nothing to fear. It still feels like I have that invincibility when I come back to listen to these songs, even if he's no longer around. 💗

This video will always occupy a unique place in my memory. First off, it's a great mix with great visuals, and it takes me right back to being a kid when I was enthralled by the TWC, yet also slightly frightened by the thunderstorm icons the channel used in the earliest days of the 2000s. Second, I watched this video to help me fall asleep every single night for several months earlier this year. The song at 5:47 always lulled me to sleep. At that time, my relationship--now over--was, unfortunately, beginning to noticeably weaken, I was trudging through difficult work for a PhD program, and I was living in a city far away from my closest friends. It was nice to have this video then, really, because it helped me get weeks of restful sleep before things got even bumpier in life. I suppose that makes this video bittersweet, as it reminds me of the immediate month or so before my breakup and other difficult turns in life. To fittingly use weather imagery, this mix let me rest during the calm before the storm. So thank you, really.

im not a 90s kid, i was born in the 2006 but my parents were poor newly immigrant couple so we didnt have a lot of new stuff. that being said i never had cable until later on for like only 2years but; i would always turn on the weather channel to watch reports and weather shows they had playing like tornado chasers and etc. the music they also played was great. the weather channel was my mickey mouse clubhouse and inspired me to take on meteorology and even tornado chasing for research but i found a new path. forever love the weather channel ♡

I got into Weather Channel music a lot more after the passing of my aunt back in October of 2022. I found it very difficult to study in college during that period, but listening to weather channel vaporwave at the library not only helped me focus, but weirdly made me feel nostalgic. It reminded me of the good times I had as a kid.

Well chosen! I remember that era of the Weather Channel well. Absolutely nailed it. I still have a clear memory of the Weather Channel playing Rainforest by Paul Hardcastle, back around 1988 or so. One of the more surprising tracks I've ever heard on there, was Something Always Happens, by The Art Of Noise.

This gives me vivid memories of being at my grandparents' house, staying the night when they had cable and we didn't. Play outside all day, watch cartoons in the morning and evening, and when I couldn't sleep, put this stuff on. I didn't know it was a genre on youtube and I'm all over it now.

I should be listening to lofi and rap music as a teen rn, but no matter what this is melting my soul rn. It makes me wanna study math at ease rn. 4:10 is so good. I listen to J Pop or City Pop and music like this or this genre is similar (in a way) so yeah, I love music like this. I prefer 80's music. I always listened to 80's bands, in any language, mostly Spanish Rock. But I am so happy this is great, thank you so much for uploading this!

Please don't concern yourself with what you "should" be listening to! I mean, I'm getting the sense you do what you want regardless of that, but even having it sitting in the back of your head is paying it more mind than you really owe those people. Justifying one's own musical tastes is always a waste of time, time better spent enjoying it!
