Weathering and NMM on a big model | Maghariba Guard | Corvus Belli Infinity | Haqqislam

This model was quite daunting to paint, considering that it is the biggest and heaviest mini in Infinity, so it has been sitting on my shelf for a while waiting to be painted. Do you guys also have models you own but are too afraid to paint because you don't want to mess them up? :D

That looks awesome, and you are right you don't have to highlight everything. One of the things that I learned through many tutorials is that usually the face of the miniature is what will be it's focal point so the rest of the paint job should help emphasize this. Unless there's a specific thing that you want to focus on instead, or a vehicle like this. Awesome job regardless, honestly it's impressive most of the model is really just chipping and weathering.

Glad to hear you liked them :) I used Dark, medium and light rust from AK interactive for the bronz, with a bit of ice yellow added to thenlight yellow for the final highlight.

How do you dilute your AK 3rd gen? I'm experimenting with them and I'm having a bit of a hard time getting them to go down well.

Interesting, I found AK to be the easiest paint range to work with when it comes to dilution. I simply put some on the wet palette and then add water with the brush ( or remove some by taping it on a paper towel). What is giving you trouble specifically? Diluting them for basecoating or glazing?

I struggle with basecoating. Perhaps I should try your method of mixing the paint on my wet palette.

A wet palette makes things infinitely easier in my experience. For basecoating, you don't really need to add a lot of water to the paint. I have done it enough now that I simply go by feel :D but I would say add like 20-30% water to the paint. Apply a layer on mini, don't spend more than a couple of seconds on any given surface with the brush. Even if it looks patchy and uneven, just let it dry and don't disturb it. Once dry see if it covers fully, If it is not fully opaque, repeat it again. That should give you a nice smooth coat with AK after 2-3 layers, depending on the color and on what primer you had under it. good luck! :)

@@ph3lansminiatures ahh this makes sense now, I should have asked my question more clearly. I was asking about the airbrush dilution. They brush paint beautifully but I struggle to mix them for the airbrush.

Oh, I see :D That is a trickier question for sure. It is a magical combination of your needle size, the dilution, and the pressure you are using. let's assume a 0.3 or 0.4 needle and something like 25-30 PSI ( for glazing, you would use something around 20). I would buy a bottle or two of airbrush paint from vallejo, and take that consistency as something you want to achieve ( actually a bit more diluted than that because I tend to add a bit of water or thinner even to that). It is much easier to use that than something like " a bit thicker than milk" :D AK in my experience behaves exactly the same as citadel or Vallejo through the airbrush if you manage to achieve that magical dilution. Rule of thumb, it should always be thinner than you might think :D
