I've worked in the power industry for 35 years. We seal underground splices with a product called aquaseal, then rubber tape and finish it with vinyl tape (electrical).

I was taught by the navy, vinyl, rubber, then permatex liquid electrical tape. Just vinyl and rubber tape aren't enough in my experience.

Well, it does cover how to wrap and what to use, but the angle of watershed is important. Two wraps of self Amalgamating Tape, starting from the top connector, down to the bottom, then wrap backup. This creates a shingled effect. Then wrap the same way with a good quality Vinyl tape. The first two layers is what does the job. The Vinyl just holds it in place. Anywhere the self Amalgamating Tape contacts should be clean, otherwise, it won't be a good seal. Note, the self Amalgamating Tape doesn't adhere to the connectors and coax, just seals with it.

Had one antenna coax sealed like this & the inner flex tape or whatever it's called leaked.8 other antennas have 3M electrical tape covered by Coax Seal & then taped over again & NONE of them have failed.I'll take Coax Seal over this stuff any day as well as the stuff that Andrews puts out that looks & feels like Coax Seal.

I'd recommend Gamma cold shrink over this process. Much faster, cleanerand excellent protection.

Cold shrink seems to be more expensive, less versatile and harder to find. Also it is made out of silicone which is the same as self-fusing tape so no better protection.

Great to see how to do it....would recommend slightly higher resolution. It's OK, but would look better with higher resolution.

Glad you like the video. Someday they will get me a better video camera....... I'm using Cyberlink for the editor and it seems to work really nice. 73, KB8UUZ

I'd wrap the rubber sealing tape then heat shrink over it. Electrical tape won't cut it over time.

33 isn't ordinary electrical tape. I've used it in harsh conditions for many years. No failures or moisture intrusion.
