I find it funny that they're both using laptops, not that you can't use laptops but what I'm trying to say are they even using the expensive gear in that studio for at least the mix? Generally speaking I don't think there's really a difference where you're making a beat but there are benefits to having a room that's acoustically treated

the reason they have there monitors positioned like that is all because of a photo taken of bruce sweden when he was working on thrillier. they took a photo for a interview and it was the photographers decission too position them like that because it looked cooler..but after that photo people then thought thats what you have to do with your monitors so they copied it then it eventually turned into a myth you need to do this. in the many studios i worked in during the 90s all of the studios they tried this but soon put them back to normal way because producers complained the sound didnt sound right..then one day i was working with a producer who had worked with bruce and he explained the myth too me..its also the same picture that made people buy yamaha ns10s..he explained when bruce was mixing the monitors in the studio broke so bruce asked one of the neighbours had they got some speakers to lend them for a few days ,,the neighbour said yep and showd him these crappy ns10s which were designed for home hifis not studios..bruce was desperate so said ok ill borrow those and they look cool (black/white)..he hooked them up and thats when the photographer came in and said hey lets take a photo of you with those speakers positioned sideways in the background.. on the proper mixs they didnt use the ns10s it was just a temporary solution but they then became the you need to buy the ns10s too be a producer myth lol. every studio bought them in the 90s but once bought and hooked up people realised they were shit but felt stupid taking them back so kept them but most never hooked them up they had them because clients had seen them in big studio pics and thought to be a pro studio you needed them ,but in real life they were a nightmare to mix on due too them having no low end and they boosted the upper mids so hurt your ears.

From the look of those monitors they look like ns10m's. Yamahas famous model. As far as the positioning I think it has more to do with the listening position when you're sitting there also those particular speakers don't typically produce low-end passed like 40-50hz, so you won't feel like rumble just thump
@donnydarko7624 Жыл бұрын
When one of the groups was using the step sequencer and the beat wasn't lining up with the rhythm on the sample I was just thinking about they could have laid drum samples on a track and just lined them up with the sample by eye.

my speculation why is because you tend to mix the highs wider and the lows more center. it points it more out if the highs are too tight and the lows/low mid are too wide

about the speaker monitors: I don't have any, but I think I would put them vertical, with the tweeter on top, like this: 8. Honestly, even with the tweeter on the side, I think there will be some masking. Plus, our ears are tuned to think high sounds come from top and bass sounds from the ground. I think is the most natural position.
