As someone new to the craft/hobby, I absolutely love how they're still posting videos like this. I've been watching videos designed to actually teach people how to make things posted *years* ago, and they're still here doing it. That is so rare these days. No clickbait, no 'support us on patreon', just lessons on how to properly make things.

The ones I hate (not by weaver) is "how to make a leather blah blah" then it's one of those stupid asmr videos, while I'm out here trying to learn from nothing

@@reapersritehand to be fair, some of those asmr videos are great to watch to see different approaches. Not a direct education but gives more ideas. Fill I the dots and you see so many personal signature methods

I was asked for a belt once and didn't have leather long enough for it so, I wrote the name on one (center) piece, and used 2 more pieces to finish it off. He liked it so much, that later he wanted another made the same way, lol. He never learned the reason for the 3 piece belt.

Videos like these are why I check Weaver first when I need to buy something. So much good sent to the community deserves that it comes back. Thanks Chuck and all the unseen crew behind the scenes.

Very good information. I needed a longer shoulder strap recently and made it longer by adding a ring and a piece of strap. Now as a design feature that little cross body bag has a ring sunglasses can hang from 😁

First belt I ever did (for someone else), they wanted the initials of their four grandchildren on it. So I carefully figured out the spacing of each set of three, and started stamping. The very last letter (of the 12) was upside down. After that, I got a sharpie and marked the side with that little letter on it to indicate which side is which.

Good advice, Chuck. I wish I had seen the belt trick about three months ago. Could have saved a lot of frustration.

A great video and great tips because i have letter stamped the wrong way round, so the tips on that were very helpful. I haven't had to extend a belt yet but your tip will come in very useful. Thank you very much and keep up the great work you do. One Love.

Ok... one of my pet peeves is simply very long thread when stitching a long stitch. I am gonna stsrt using that knot on the inside option, even when not a mistake. :)
@OgeiDennepeL
@OgeiDennepeL Жыл бұрын
When stitching long lengths I usually just cut the thread the same length as my “wingspan” (the length of my arms spread out) so that i can cover as much stitching possible while still being able to tighten it by simply pulling through the needle. When I’m almost out of thread,I simply backstitch a couple of times and either tie the thread in the middle like chuck did or I simply cut it on the backside of the project and melt it with a lighter.

@@OgeiDennepeL I can appreciate that cutoff point. I’ve only been leatherworking for a year and a half, and it just hadn’t occurred to me. Amazing, the simple things that hit you sometimes. I like the Leather Element series.

Hi Chuck! How could you easily and perfectly cut a strip of soft leather (e.g. nappa) straight? Thanks, Grretings from Hungary 👍😁👍
@jackiemitchell4418
@jackiemitchell4418 Жыл бұрын
Chuck may have a better idea, but I use a straight edge on a table edge and very tightly clamp with a series of clamps (removing only one at a time and replacing to further my cut). A VERY, VERY sharp stropped knife with multiple light strokes help, also.

@@istvanboros8240 also note the anti slip tape on the bottom of Chuck’s ruler. That helps prevent the soft leather from moving around as much while cutting

I was asked to make a belt for a xxx sized man, after making one the same size as his old one that broke, he said it was too small. So, I cut a strap 4 inches longer and made him a second belt which he paid me $20.00 for.

The trick with the initials was pretty good. But how hard would it be to have the top of the stamp designated in some idiot-proof manner? I would think some clever stamp engineer could come up with something. I don’t own any of those letter stamp sets so I don’t know.
