I have a question. Smooth vs textured shaders, bevelers, etc. is is just preference? Is there a standard? Do you ever mix smooth and texture on the same project?
@WeaverLeatherSupply3 жыл бұрын
It's mostly up to preference and the look you want to achieve. With a smooth bevel, you'll just get that dark burnished look whereas the textured bevels add some dimension and burnish. You can definitely mix them, especially on a large project where you're beveling lines and shapes, you can use the textured bevel where you need some more dimension.

Joe I’m new to leathering are you using the whole blade or just the corner on your swirl
@WeaverLeatherSupply3 жыл бұрын
You'll want the blade tilted back a little bit so the front edge isn't dragging on the leather. Here is a video all about the swivel knife if you'd like to check that out! kzbin.info/www/bejne/boK4fnSwrNJkfrc

Joe, a question. When do use smooth, or checkered bevelers. I have both but rarely use the smooth partly because I just haven't spent time with it. Also, was that pear shader lined/grooved or was it smooth? Lastly, what weight mallet. Mine is pretty heavy and I think tooling with a lighter one would give more control.

Hey Joe ..Jean from Ont Canada here.My question is, i've been making my own tools as i can't get to a Tandy store (and yes to save a little $$) , but yes I hope to or are going to have to try and get there,to actually get some veg tan leather to actually get started lol ,anyhow i've made a few tools thus far and i made what i think is a pretty good beveler wedge shaped like what you have here, but my question is you called it a checkered beveler, does it really need the checkered line to work properly ? or would it work just as well smooth without the checkered lines.?thanks in advance .

Hey Joe! From where did you get your stamp tool? I notice that the handle is thicker and probably easy to hold than the ones I currently have with very skinny handles?
@markhudak5085 Жыл бұрын
Hi joe Did you use a smooth shader on this flower.
@WeaverLeatherSupply Жыл бұрын
the shader has a very slight texture to it but you could absolutely use a smooth shader.
