A delicate jewel among textiles, lace is an elegant and deceptively simple creation whose appeal has been spun for centuries. Correspondent Lee Cowan teases the threads of the misunderstood history of lace, and talks with some of the hundreds of lacemakers who shared their craft at the annual convention of the International Organization of Lace, Inc.

There’s different kinds of lace… Irish lace, bobbin lace, etc. I’m thrilled to see this in the news. Thank you for introducing this to the younger generations. 🙏 I should’ve watched the entire video before I posted. I’m still thankful my passion made your show.

I've always wanted to be involved for a long time but the volatility in the price has been very confusing to me. Although I have watched a lot of KZbin videos about it but I still find it hard to understand.

Hated lace when I was little, in clothes so itchy, unless made of cotton.

Grew up in Germany and its called klöppeln there. Have just about tried all the crafts except this. Much respect. Love these segments. Sad that these crafts aren't common place anymore. I think they serve more than just getting things made. People need to practice patience more.

I live many fiber arts including Quilting, Soutache, Hand Embroidery and tapestry weaving. I've been meaning to try several types of lace from bobbin to needle to irish lace. This was very inspiring for a creative mind.

Grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania Scranton Lace Company was the largest manufacturer of lace in the world. My great aunt worked there. It’s now a apartment complex but still has that old building feel ❤❤❤

It’s tatting or bobbin lace. Tatting is done with a shuttle, relatively easy. Go for it!

I love fiber arts. I enjoy needlepoint, knitting, tapestry weaving and I've learned to do Navajo weaving. I would love to try doing lace but not sure I have the patience for it. I've had family members who tatted which is in the lacing family but uses different implements to create the final piece. Great story for inspiration.
