Weaving Lobster Pots - The Gone Fishing Project

This video charts the progress of the "Gone Fishing" project held recently in Greencastle Community Centre, County Donegal. The project researched the local heritage of lobster pots in this fishing village. We collected willow and re-learnt the skills of how to weave this interestingly-shaped basket.

Are you weaving the willow when it is green?

It's not green as in freshly cut, but green coloured bark on dried rods , soaked in water

Nothing specific, we used salix purpurea, but any rods should do.

Ha! Design fault! I've seen them with detachable lids, that makes more sense now. Well spotted!

According to a fisherman friend the lobster backs in to the pot, and you take it out tail first.
