Have your book with 5-7-9 pattern threads and trying to learn and having fun. would LOVE to use a heddle on my Inkle loom instead of the "regular" inkle heddles. Is there an advantage to two hole heddles? Which should I use to get started - looking online and drooling over the beautiful wooden ones but don't know which would be best - needs to be SMALL for the inkle and I'm just doing this to have fun - but love using beautiful things for my weaving, spinning and so forth. LOVE your book and so thankful for the inkle instructions included for warping. And love your videos just started watching them.

Hi. It rather depends upon the size of your inkle loom. You need to have room to be able to move the heddle up and down. Also, the heddle should not be too near the weaving part of the band. The warp threads are stretched out across a rigid heddle. When weaving warp faced bands the warp is pulled in so that the weft is hidden. Thank you for the kind comments about my book. I love band weaving as you can tell. Do check out my blog as I sometimes post patterns for weaving bands. durhamweaver64.blogspot.com/ happy weaving Susan

@@durhamsilkweaver I use my cricket to do a mock handle. And it will work on my two bigger loans. One of them with only a tiny little bit of adjustment in the warp path. Not sure whether I’ll like it or not, but I have to try. And if all else fails, I guess I could try backstrap waving. Even with my super arthritic not very good back. But even if that fails, I’ll have a beautiful shuttle This is only one of my many many “hobbies“. So I don’t devote all of my time to it. It’s starting and stop do this for a few weeks. Do something else for a few weeks and come back. Would you recommend a slot at home shuttle for the easiest pick up pattern waving from things from your book. And other designs I can find that are the same kind of pick up. I know the slot heels are much bigger so I’ll be much more limited in the number of pick up threads but since my mind is kind of boggled down with five, I don’t think I’ll have to worry too much about having more than seven or nine. Thank you. You are a wonderful teacher and I really appreciate you taking the time to get back to me.

Is there a reason why you cant pick the threads with the shuttle every time? Whats the significance of dropping threads by hand?
@durhamsilkweaver2 ай бұрын
@@Grantachu0812 some weavers find it difficult to see the pattern threads through the warp.Picking up and separating the wrap by hand takes longer but it easier to see if you have made a mistake. I like to use the curved Gepha shuttle which does help with the pick up.

Hi Susan, Is there a significant difference in the finished band using a double holed heddle or a suna heddle ?
@durhamsilkweaver7 жыл бұрын
Yes the underlaying weave structure will be different. With the double slotted Sunna heddle the background in the pattern area is half basket weave. With a double holed heddle where the pattern threads are in the second line of holes, the background weave is plain weave. Susan

The double holed heddle I am using came from www.vavkompaniet.se/1.html who ship worldwide.

Thank you for your quick reply! I was wondering which method/heddle to use. Does the background weave have a large effect on the band?
@durhamsilkweaver7 жыл бұрын
Yes. I find that the double slotted heddle gives a crisper pattern on both side of the band. With the plain weave, the pattern thread needs to be thicker to show more clearly .

I love your heddle! Was it custom made (and if so, by who?)
