One thing to remember is that with how well you have that insulated you'll usually be running that heater on low. When they only run on low the burner chamber builds up with carbon and stops working as well, to solve it run the thing on full blast for an hour or two every now and then to burn out the extra. I can always show you how to rebuild it and clean it out by hand too. Let me know if you have any questions, I've installed a lot of those.

Youll love it. I have a Chinse Diesel heater from Amazon. Works amazing. I installed it in my teardrop for camping at the ski areas. They sips diesel. So effecient. The Webastos will mount in the same space as the chinese ones. They are copies. The cool thing on the chinese heaters is they adjust for altitude in the controller. Excellent work muh man 🦾 I installed one in my camper a few weeks ago and freakin love it! Now that I have the spray on insulation in there walls are not finished yet) the heater on lowest setting kept the camper a cozy 84 degrees. Huge improvement over the my buddy heater! You'll have to keep us posted on whether or not the diesel has a geling issue when it's extremely cold at night or if you run anti gelling additives as preventative measures. Tank location took a lot of deliberation on my part before I committed to mounting it where I did. Can't wait to see how you mount the camper to the new flatbed!

@@TruckHouseLife I’ve seen this type of heater also being sold as a self contained unit. I do like your unit better because you get more options on how you want to install it and where you want to put it. Maybe the self-contained unit would be better for a tent like structure🤷🏻‍♂️. Looking at this very unit to get, I have half the cost in AMEX credit saved, so thinking strongly use it up on one. This gem can be mobile-set up in house then switched to Van for a few weeks then back to homestead , it's so versatile. Love your Idea to have a solar and on top, I thought about a windmill, they will do the same yet all hours of day - Certainly Wind element "limited thought isn't a deal breaker. SO a windmill + Solar panel + little burner is a sweet Combo to create power independently, IMO.. Utilizing your example as a possible basis for setup with a good quality dual battery, and Bluetooth to monitor output Voltage and levels, is a wonderful thing. Inspiring !!

Great tutorial. I've seen newer ones with Bluetooth and iOS/Android app connectivity, it seems neat. How does the thermostat on this one work, is the heater on constantly or does it cycle off and on after it reaches target temperature or go down automatically on a lower burn?

@beaksbakiraq3850 3 жыл бұрын
Love your videos! I hate to be a bummer but you installed the heater upside down. According to the manual the vent air flow needs to be horizontal or hot air out the top. Hot air rises and making it go down will cause the Webasto to get excessively hot inside. If the ducting is short you will probably still be fine but I figure I'd let you know so you can keep an eye on it. I installed a hydronic one upside down before and the heating chamber had got an air lock. It would run for 5 minutes overheat and shut off. It took a while before I figured out. I just assumed they didn't want the exhaust pointing up because of condensation but there was more to it than that.
@TruckHouseLife
@TruckHouseLife 3 жыл бұрын
I called Webasto and they said to install it just like I did with the webasto label right side up and hot air blowing downwards in the direction of the arrow. I called the webasto techs just to make sure before installing it.

These Webasto heater were very popular two decades ago before OTR tractors came with APUs. My heater was mounted horizontally in the side box. No cold air inlet duct req'd, flexible exhaust tube exited out the bottom to the rear and the warm air entered the bunk area at floor level behind the driver's seat. I seem to recall someone recommending not operating it while in transit. The internal basket/burner is fragile and pricey to replace. I'd sleep with windows half open as keeping the thermostat cranked up resulted in a clean burn. Excellent BTU output.

hey.... have you done much research/ thought about wind power as an alternative/compliment to solar? I have been falling into wormholes landing on Missouri Wind and Solar and have watched a couple basic you tube videos. Other than that I have no idea where to start in terms of companies. I do know what I know, which is that panels on the top of my bread truck are great for collecting snow and shadows so far this winter, and it's always windy in the eastern sierra. I trust your processes/perspective since it got me to install my webaso heater, so curious if you've done anything/ thought of anything related to adding a wind turbine to help power the house

Thanks for the video. Subbed. Does your diesel gel up in the extreme cold ? I was thinking of running my exhaust pipe from the heater onto my engine block. Kind of a backup to the electric engine block heater, which my Honda 1000 doesn't have enough power to run, ughh.

Question? How loud is that exhaust? Being in a hunting camp with trailers about 6 ft apart . Would they be able to hear the heater running ? Right now I can run my 18ft camper on a single deep cycle battery for about 2 weeks,which runs my lighting and my water pump.the average temp is in the 20's or 30's .could u give an estimate on how long it would take to run down a single deep cell battery before I would have to charge it with just running that heater?

Did I notice in an earlier video that you also have a Kimberly? Apart from the price tag, likes? Dislikes? I had a plan for heating my bus with a Shipmate/Navigator-Halibut style original Neptune (about 100 years old) and Dickinson Pacific Diesel heater/cookstove, but I have changed my mind. The ice all over the bus this morning tells me that I was a fool to not take care of this earlier but live and learn I suppose. I might like a Webasto, I wouldn't like the Chinese version. Everything is so hard to get right now. I saw a Jotul 404 today at the off-grid shop, but it's in the "museum" and they won't sell it.😭

Somebody may have asked this question already, but is it possible to tie in your fuel supply line directly to your trucks diesel fuel tank? So that you wouldn’t have to refill the tank that was included with the kit?

Ohhhh, I was confused too. I thought you were building a whole new camper once the flatbed was installed, but I think I was wrong. You're reinstalling the original, but you'll now have room for sleds, etc on the side?. I couldn't figure out why you were Installing the new heater when you're replacing the camper, but I don't know why I thought that. I think I know your plan for the steel bed, but i'll wait and see. Can I ask why the change in heater? I was thinking simplifying fuel, but you'll still have propane stove, but maybe that you'll ALWAYS have diesel so even if you break down and get stuck for a week, you'll have a huge supply of D to stay warm?

I watched a lot of your videos and some of the recent ones are about when your heater stopped working. And you've tried to fix it multiple times. I have heard that sometimes mud daubers or wasps will go into the exhaust and plug them. Have you checked that? I know you've had issues trying to figure out what was wrong with your unit.

The fresh air is for the combustion process inside the heater, not for distribution of heated air in the camper. I think anyways, that's how wood, coal, and pellet stoves work. The convection air for circulation is pulled from inside the camper, the hole directly opposite of the heated air blowing tube thing.
