We went a few weeks ago and it was absolutely hilarious how much better the food was there than most Indian restaurants in Kolkata, Mumbai or bangalore (the places I have stayed in). They know their food very well. i went there to make fun of the two michelin stars and complain about the price, but was left speechless after the meal. The biriyani+pomegranate raita is more suited to my palette than 300-400 biriyanis I have had during my time in India.

Full 3 hour meal at Gymkhana vs. a much smaller selection at a Brick Lane Indian restaurant isn't quite a good comparison lol. Go to a tandoori spot in Harrow or similar, get a decent mixed grill and a curry with accompaniments and it'll set you back some £50 with a coupla drinks like you had there, and make that comparison. If you're in the area I have some commentary on the available spots. Regency in Queensbury is the most popular in the area and has history behind it, plus approval from some celebs who have eaten there, but I find it hit and miss - sometimes it's good, once it was excellent (Mark Ronson was on the next table so I imagine they dusted off the right chef for the job that day), but most times I find it average. Honestly, I prefer the food at Sugar and Spice Lounge right nearby. It's a shame Secret of Mari Masala had to close down due to a fire, they even had onion bhaji which is hard to find in most of these places and it was sublime. But their other food was also great - especially for the money. Shame also they only did one beer on tap though! Club 2000 used to do this amazing lamb dish (like a very tender beaten mushkaki), but I haven't been in a few years. Used to be a go to mixed grill spot with the boys. There's a few places in Hatch End I could take or leave, some are just a bit too bougie (looking at you Dojo, though cuisine has a wide selection, but the food is just fine - too pricey for what it is), but Social Dhabha is pretty solid. A lot of people also swear by Bombay Central and it's worth a go - I think they have opened up again after a flood. It's been a while and I can't remember which dishes I enjoyed the most. There's other mainstays that are popular in the area - Blue Ginger, Everest (Abercorn and others), Spice Rack Lounge, Purple Flame, Venue 5, and pricier options like Bhageecha and Namaste Lounge and a bunch more. Also if you like your spice, Sahibs is pretty good up in Northwood Hills, but don't expect an atmosphere. Similarly Chilli Lovers on Honeypot Lane does some of the hottest dishes I've tried and is pretty decent overall and well priced, especially compared to its neighbours (Bambi and BNova). If anyone has other recommendations in the area feel free to share. I've been meaning to try The Spice Box in Edgware but have been going out for food less and less these days.
