Evert time I see one of these it reminds me of the doctor who lived two houses down who had one. He was an orthopedic surgeon at a Chicago hospital and did all the trauma cases. .. He was always out with a polish cloth cleaning it. He told me me he uses the same tools on people, just that they are cleaner. Just to show the kind of person, he rebuilt an Indian motorcycle that a patient gave him in pieces for non payment. He took me for rides in his airplane and let me fly. One time we went to his boat anchored in Chicago harbor during lunch hour. There he was hand grinding valves on two Grey Marine engines. We were going to swim in the harbor and he warned us to keep our heads out as the water might not be clean. The garage had a 3x4 foot blackboard where he recorded the miles on each car so he could have the oil change at proper time. The car had a small box top of the car that was connected to the air pump. Doc Vachout retired and died in 1996. I miss him.

I learned to drive in one of these. My mother's boyfriend was an auto salesman. On the dash was a plate with the production number and name of the Texan it was made for.

These Floor Shift cars were really quite quick. Although never tested in the day by the media/mags. (all auto's) Stick shift cars came with 4:30 rear gears and they had overdrive in 2nd., and 3rd. I have one of these in Metallic dark blue and white with Ansen (mag wheels) floor shifter.

Was the 289 the largest engine in a Studebaker? I was thinking the Avanti had something in the low to middle 300 ci range? How about the pickupa?

@@donkeziah2564 Most ever was 304 cu. in., but later Avanti's used 4V Carb and higher boost pressure, R2, R3,. R1 was a 289 N.A., and R4 was 304.5 N.A. with 12.5 compression and 2 4V carbs.

They blew it on the paint. Fin should be white only on inset

I agree, but I do like the look of the all white fins. Also the trim piece between the fins and fender, I never seen it chromed.
