the solenoid valve is also an idle jet its purpose is to stop the engine from running on after you switch off the ignition, i would take a feed from the wire that feeds the coil assuming the coil is a 12volt if not take a feed from the ignition switch .
@RetroRebuild Жыл бұрын
I'm going to wire it from the fuse box mate 👍
@pavierthermostat8763 Жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, awesome video as always! Definitely don’t share the oil wire for your +12v feed, as the warning light has resistance and also the supply will drop to 0v when there’s no oil pressure. The oil warning lamp might also glow dimly. It’s always better to get a fresh feed from inside the car from the fusebox or even the ignition switch (via a fuse of course) … alternatively you can use the coil +12v, but only if your car doesn’t use any kind of Ballast resistor. Keep up the good work Mate !

Hi there... that Solenoid idle shut off needs to be on a switched 12v supply ideally from the fuse box, coming from the coils supply but not inline with any ballast resistor, you may need a relay so check the amperage and could burn the ignition switch... or it might just be fine without one. The Solenoid should only get a supply when the ignition is switched on, and obviously driving the car, the supply needs to be a clean 12v with no resistance or intermittent, thus Solenoids have coils in them and will burn if they are permanently fed with a supply. The engine sounds good but still idles up and down slightly indicating the solenoid is pulling intermittently. All the best mate and keep on rocking !! 🔨🛠🔧🪛🔩 😃

Here am I lying in bed at half past 11 on a Sunday morning watching a guy hard at work on one of the most worthwhile activities in the universe..... viva restoration. Ok still recovering from broken leg, but I have had to keep hobbling out to put the mx5 battery on charge. It was totally flat, so put the BRAND NEW Halfords charger on. After one day, nothing. Then I notice the ‘high tech’ charger does not charge if battery has less than 4.5 volts. So Halfords charger is a real chocolate tea pot. So I put the old charger on. Couple of hours later she starts up quite happily. Moral....OLD IS BEST. Anything new Is ‘overteched’ crap.

@@vernonmatthews181 every sympathy to you. My daughter, who definitely hates anything detrimental happening to her father, thinks it hilarious that I should suffer broken tib and fib from falling from an unprotected platform onto stone steps at the STEP PYRAMID saqquara. Fortunately the last day of our holiday, and Cairo hospital patched me up enough to fly home next day. Back in England, 10 days in hospital, and a total of 12 weeks with a full leg cast, from bum to toe. Got the cast off last week so now have just a lower leg boot so, with the Zimmer frame just about able to hobble outside to do things like battery charge. Cannot resist these videos. I have a 1972 viva which I have owned from 1977 tucked away in the garage awaiting restoration. Totally understand the concept of ‘ older and grumpier’, all the best to you.

@@terryatkinson899 Sod’s law rules ok. Everything is three times as difficult/time consuming that you are expecting. The seized bolt syndrome is illustrative. I have been going to a ‘proper garage’ for 40 years. A franchised ‘stealership’ will be defeated by a rusted bolt ( and charge the earth to tell you that) whereas a ‘mechanics garage’ will take it in its stride and REPAIR , rather than simply replace the problematic component.

It’s an electric idle control valve that sets the basic idle speed, then when the engine is shut off, the valve closes to stop the fuel and help prevent the engine ‘running on’.

As a guess, that solenoid is a cold start unit. It may be wired to a temp sending unit that has a hot wire to one side. As the engine reaches operating temperature the switch closes allowing 12volts through to pull the high idle solenoid off letting it drop to the proper idle speed.
@RetroRebuild Жыл бұрын
Idle cut off or anti run on switch solenoid, I've seen people remove the pin from them so they're not in use they need a constant 12v feed 👍
